Are there any on GB? I remember seeing all sorts of them for a while.
I overpaid for mine In 35 whelen when they first announced them but it was my first brand new factory rifle in that caliber and I just took it to Africa.

Dropped everything I pointed it at.
Before I shot it 2 years ago when I got it I had bedded the action and floated the barrel.
Pillar bed blocks front and rear also. With handloads it was a great shooter. Never tried factory stuff.

I was very happy, though these rugers I’ve yet to have one new or old that won’t shoot great if you have the stock torqued correctly.
I have this one listed above but also in 35 whelen and it’s the same deal. Great rifles though many people love them or hate them.

So I had the same dilemma for 2-3 months. I’ve always loved lower power scopes for weight and size but the 2.5x8x36 or a 3x9x36 really are the most versatile and still light enough.
I’m small guy 5’6” 125lbs and I can carry that African with the 2.5x8 all day for 2 weeks down there and I was fine without a sling.
At 300 yrs the 8x is plenty for hunting and the 2.5 is low enough for 25 yd shots off hand at running animals .

i like the Alaska arms rings you can run low rings with that setup. Solid rings for a QD setup. What did was my “spare” scope was a 1.5x5 in those rings and swapping the scopes back and forth zero stays.
My entire safari I could have gotten away with the 1.5x5 except for 3 animals which all at different times I’m glad I could utilize 6-7 power.
Train with setting up on sticks and adjusting your power ring dry firing and it can become very fast and second nature.

I saw a 35 Whelen for sale the other day at the Cabela’s in Buda, TX. I didn’t look close but I think it had a VX5 on it (definitely a Leupold) and they were asking $2k maybe $2100
