ROMANIA: Hunt With Marius Of HUNTROMANIA

(I am speaking of my place, and hunting ways - not on Romanian outfitters on this forum)

In Croatia, (where I live), nobody ever asked me to test or zero the rifle before the hunt.

I think this particular failure in procedure can come from variety of facts, influences, habits, local conditions and culture.

Some of them are:
Many of hunting areas do not have improvised shooting range. (one thing)
One reason for this shortcoming is incompetency of people leading the local club, not being aware this can easily be established. Or club management simply do not care.

Secondly:
Many of the local hunters do not know how to zero the rifle. (gunsmith do this for them) So they dont need improvised shooting range.

So, there is no tradition in this for me very important part of hunting preparation.

If the guide, or outfitter does not have long experience in accommodating foreign hunters, this problem for visiting foreign hutner can easily be experienced.

This is also typical for local clubs who sell one or two big game animals per year, to help their annual budgeting. They are not used to accommodate frequent foreign clients, and do the hunt their own way, and treat the client in same manner

So, what I do, I keep my rifles tested and zeroed, all the times. Always double checked if there is a doubt, as I frequently go to the range in my private arrangment. But not many from hunting community do it this way.

Congrats and thanks for sharing! Looking at Marius myself in the next year or for roe/boar.

This is very interesting to me. Please elaborate about where y'all stayed, the food, and any sight seeing you did while on the hunt. Where do you fly into And where from? How far did you drive from the main airport? If I went I would want to take my wife and see some of the country. @WAB thoughts as well.

Thank you sir! I believe you just helped a lot of us better understand

Romania was absolutely incredible- the castles, churches, culture, traditions, to name a few- were beyond compare!! When I went this summer- took flight from Frankfurt to Cluj-Napoca (we then flew out of Bucharest to Vienna for rest of vacation). I’ll fill you in more about it buddy but you for sure need to put it on bucket list! Super cool to be able to say you’ve hunted in Transylvania lol!!

Hey Philip, We stayed at a hotel called the Pensiunea Noblesse. It was very nice and had an attached Restaurant. The food was very good and served local cuisine.

I flew ATL-Frankfurt-Cluj Napoca.
Marius picked me up at the airport and we drove about 2 hours to the Hotel. We stayed roughly 30 to 45 minutes from the hunting areas.

The only sightseeing I done was one evening after I had got my Roe Deer me and WAB went into the nearest city of Oradea. We spent a little while walking around and I did some very light shopping. We got some food in the city that was very good as well.
The City of Oradea was very pretty. I will attach some pictures.

If I had time when I find myself back in Romania I would like to rent a car and go see Transylvania, the Carpathian Mountains and some of the old historical castles there. I spoke to a Police Officer while I was there and he told me the Country was very safe and the biggest problem they had Law Enforcement wise was speeders and people driving after consuming alcohol.

I am not the best photographer and those were taken on my phone, but it was a very nice City and I enjoyed getting to visit it with WAB.

I am absolutely taking my wife to tour Romania. There is a pretty significant wine region, and a little research turned up some beautiful vineyards to visit. A little on the ground research confirmed that the wine is good!

Trout fishing appears to be outstanding. There is at least one fly fishing outfitter in country.

My guide, Cosmine, raises gsp’s and is a serious bird hunter. There are pheasant and quail in abundance.

Restaurants are very good with a strong Italian influence. Accommodations are very comfortable.

My only concern, having posted our trip reports, is that you guys don’t book him out and make it hard for me to return!

And thank you!

You just reminded me to add my previous points to my thread about Croatia hunting.
Visiting hunter to check with his outfitter and confirm options for zeroing the rifle before the hunt.

Philip, I was in Bucharest last year. Except for the airport, it was a great place to visit. It’s a short drive from there to Transylvania. Highlights are Peles Castle, Dracula Castle and Brasov. It would be worth spending a night in Brasov, as it’s a packed day to see all three. In Bucharest, Caru’ Cu Bere is great, oldest beer hall and the food was very good. Old Bucharest is a collection of old buildings and modern communist architecture.

I too am very interested in those hunts and planning for next year, just waiting to see when flights open up for the dates that I am interested.

It will be nice to follow your plans. I'd likely be looking at 2025 myself.
