Rigby PH or Parkwest 404 Jeffery?

They are not available because I bought them!!! This is what our AH forum is all about...members helping members!!!!! I told @Wildwillalaska I did not want to say anything until I got the mount system, scope and rifle in hand, but I can't help myself. NECG told me Recknagel does not make these in 34MM, I talked to four dealers who told me the same thing only to find @Wildwillalaska found them for me!!!!! Once I have everything in hand, I will send pictures of everything put together. The new 404 Rigby Jeffery will be used in 2027 for a Buff!!!! So very grateful to @Wildwillalaska !!!!!

Both are magnificent and you will not regret purchasing either.

But I would personally opt for the John Rigby & Co. Big Game, because it holds one round more (4+1) than the Parkwest Model 76 (3+1).
Are you sure on that for the 450 Rigby? The Rigby website says 3 in the magazine. Not arguing just want to know.

Understand the complexity involved but as someone who has plans to add a new rifle in some DG category, I feel you need one scope per gun unless it comes pre milled from factory like Rigby/Mauser for pivot mounts. For a DG to me best is Iron sights as you hunt close, but then why will you need more than one scope ?
For the large, dangerous African critters I’d hunt “close” with my .404 Jeff, “close” means none would be beyond 100yds. If they are, then you and the PH need to stalk closer.

In turn, that raises the question of what’s the appropriate zero for “close” hunting?

For iron sights, I use a 50-60 zero, and then vet where POI is with the same load @ 100yds. Remember, you’re not hunting squirrels or prairie dogs. Elephants, buffalo, rhino, etc., don’t require sub-MOA precision. Trying to zero your .404, .416, or .458 rifle for an MOA @ 200-yds is arm-chair fantasy and unnecessary and, worse, a waste of factory ammo.

For “close” hunting of the same game with an optic, for me that means either a very low fixed-power compact scope (nothing over 3x) or a red dot.

Zero is initially 100yds, with more attention paid to where the POI is on the target at shorter range, like 50-60yds.
