In White Hunter, Black Heart,...

The film's plot was based on John Ford and his trip to Africa for the filming of The African Queen.

Apparently it's too late for me to edit, but I made an error in the above post.

It should read John Huston, not John Ford.

Would a kindly moderator please edit and change the line of copy to:

Yep, thats him.

My grandmother went to Glendale (California) High School with Morrison as he was developing the 'John Wayne' persona.

I have her 1924 GHS annual wherein he signed over the 'Marrion Morrison' captions, some as 'John Wayne', some as 'Jack Wayne'. He had several photos in the annual as he was captain of the football team and in the drama club.

Much to my chagrin, it was definitely a Mannlicher Schoenauer that was used in Schindler's List, which would be appropriate for someone of Amon Goeth's social status.

Here is an image of the actual Amon Goeth on the balcony with a Mauser, appears to be K98:

A few images of Mannlicher Schoenauers in film and in the hands of notables:

Eli Wallach in The Brain, 1962:

Leslie Caron, Father Goose, 1964:

Here are some images from Ramar of the Jungle (TV series, 1952 - 54) wherein the rifle held by 'Ramar' (Jon Hall) is a stutzen (full stocked carbine) that is not a Mannlicher Schoenauer.
Notice the bolt handle closes behind rear receiver ring, not in front as on MS:

'Ramar' is likely holding a Mauser stutzen such as this from the 1939 Stoeger:

These are also not Mannlicher Schoenauers, but they are from the movies:

Two of the worst movie " gun mistakes " that I've seen....one was some C or D grade zombie movie set on an island somewhere and all the soldiers were blasting away at the zombies with full auto M16's and there was not a magazine in one of them ?????..... the other was an otherwise good movie, The Blue Max, about WW1 German air aces.......EVERY soldier in the move, German, English, Italian, all of them , carried British Lee Enfields.
