Hunting With Us

Rifle Hunting
We offer hunters the opportunity to hunt different terrain. Some areas consist of vast open plain (savannah) where other areas are thick bush veldt cover.

In the open, savannah-like areas, shots can vary anywhere from 200-300m. Most forays, however, are done in the bush veldt where hunting is conducted using the spot and stalk method. We will spend some time on the hunting vehicle trying to locate the animals. Once a preferred animal has been located, we will get off the truck and stalk the animal on foot. With this type of hunting shots will range from 50-150m.

Calibre Selection
The smallest calibre permitted is .243 (6mm). This and 6.5mm can be used on the smallest game like Steenbok, Impala, and Springbok. On larger game species such as Warthog, Hartebeest, Zebra and Gemsbok, the 7mm and .30 calibres perform better. On dangerous game the minimum required calibre is .375. The .375 also works well on the largest plains game like Eland, Kudu, and Wildebeest.

Bow hunting
For bow hunting we have built permanent blinds over waterholes and feeding places on our main property.

We also have bow hunt only concessions where walk and stalk is also a possibility. The hides on these ranches are of the highest quality and extensive planning and money has gone into building good bow blinds that work very effectively. Hides also vary from normal ground blinds to tree stands and pit blinds. By law your PH needs to be with you at all times so the blind are big and spacious enough to accommodate 2-3 people at once. We also do bow hunting on some of our other concessions and almost any species can be bow hunted when you come and hunt with Bos en Dal Safaris.

Wing shooting
We offer the wing shooting enthusiast the opportunity to do some bird hunting as well. The season runs from the first of May until the end of August.

We shoot pigeons and doves over sunflower fields – this makes for some extensive shooting per day. Francolin and Guinea fowl are hunted by driving them out of the grass so that the hunter gets them in mid-air. We also do waterfowl which means early morning where we need to get to the ponds and into position before the first sign of daylight. When the birds leave the pond we have maybe 30 minutes to an hour of shooting; then again in the afternoons we sit at the ponds and wait for the birds to come back from the pastures. Species targeted are Egyptian goose, Yellow-billed and Red-billed ducks. Hunters need only to bring a shotgun. We will supply the ammunition and charge for the shells that were used.

We had the privilege to host the young hunters weekend a local magazine in South Africa host every year. This is for children who may never have the chance to hunt a animal. We had 2 youngsters of 13 and 14 years old who both came to hunt their first animals. It was a successful hunt as both of them killed their animals with first shot clean kills. We had some other children join them on the farm and all and all it was great. Thanks to all involved who helped to make this possible. And to Wildland Magazine i hope we can do this again next year. Here is a few pictures of the children with their animals.

It is great to keep the heritage of hunting alive in our youngsters and let the tradition of hunting stay alive. As they will be the next generation of hunters.
The goal is to teach them ethical hunting and sustainability through responsible utilization.

During the course of the weekend they had to first learn about gun safety, we had an afternoon session on the shooting range where all of this was covered in detail, the next morning they were out hunting and our resident PH Frikkie took great care of them, first up was the Girl who shot this warthog

Then the other winner of the competition " Pudding" shot a blesbok

The following day they had to help with the skinning of the animals as well

Here is some of the animals shot by the other Children who joined them on the hunt
