Hi Everyone, I am looking for some recommendations for high quality taxidermy in Canada. For both North American animals as well as African. I will likely get African animals done with an African taxidermist but for some animals such as a full mount crocodile etc I thought the shipping might be so cost prohibitive that it was worth trying to find someone local. Thanks!

Where are you located? Dealing with dip&pack capes/hides in Canada has become very complicated. My daughter is a taxidermist but not doing any of that fur mount stuff right now. She may have some contacts, depending on your location.

Advanced Taxidermy is doing my muskox for me, they are well known to be one of the best for sure
What @Withworth375 said, but they are EXTREMELY backlogged and I was told a year ago that they are very selective on the orders they accept now. Mostly returning customers.
FYI: I could not get an update for my work for at least a month now, despite several phone conversations and emails.

I will be moving to Calgary in a few months but I am not overly concerned with it being local. I would rather superior work to convenient work.

I can across their website and their work looks outstanding but then read a lot of awful reviews with respect to their customer service and communication which was very concerning.

That’s seems to be a common occurrence with taxidermists.

While I have not used Advanced personally, I have a friend whose home is literally filled with African trophies who uses them a great deal. He seems quite happy with them although he did once remark he would prefer that they pose the ears of his PG is a more alert position than they do by default.

It all looked like very good work to my eye.

seeing that you are coming west ...

Artistic Taxidermy / Brian Dobson in Edmonton is as good as it gets, especially the NA stuff. Like all top notch outfits, quite backlogged, it'll take awhile and a few more bucks than the other guys, but usually worth it.

African stuff - Orion Taxidermy / Rion White in Moose Jaw turns out a very nice product. When he does the hands on stuff himself, as good as it gets.

Actually a number of other pretty good guys in Alberta - maybe some of the guys from there, will chime in.

Watching with interest. My wife wants a full-mount crocodile and I'm happy to hunt one, but I'm (very) concerned about the shipping costs and final product. My understanding is that it is a real challenge to do crocodiles right and that dip and ship has issues due to the character of the crocodile leather. Would love to get some clarity on this.

Not to mention that it is an open question as to where you put a 13 ft mount.

Marco Pilon of Sugar CreekTaxidermy is amazing. He works by himself and is very particular. He did my Cape Bufalo, royal sable and my sons greater kudu, gemsbok and impala. He also does North American, very nice work from what I've seen in his shop. He is on his acreage north of Leslieville Alberta. From my experience with Canadian taxidermy, get your mounts done here in Canada but get your buckskins done in Africa. Africa is way cheaper on the back skins and quality is way better (the opinions of leather workers that I have used.) The mounting is significantly cheaper in Africa but the quality is much better for mounts by the Canadian artists that I have used. IMHO.

I talked to Brittany a couple weeks ago and she said the tannery they use is backed up which is slowing things down on their end

Artistic Taxidermy doesn't seem to be in business anymore. I tried calling and the number listed is no longer in service and their website link is dead.

She told me the same thing at the end of August.
I heard that all large tannery’s in ON are closed and there is only one left in QC.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
