Hello all!

I recently picked up a CZ-550 Safari Classic in .375 for a pretty nice price (well I think so anyway lol, about $930 after tax and she is as clean as a whistle) but the recoil pad on it has a few gouges and rips. I went to the Limb-saver page but they do not provide any recoil pads specifically for a CZ rifle and I'm not sure where to go from here because they are my go-to-recoil-reducers. Any suggestions for a good recoil pad would be greatly appreciated! As a side note I'm looking for one to permanently attach to the rifle, not a slip on.

Again, thank you all for your time and thank you in advance for your advice!

I prefer pachmyer decellerators on my rifles...

May check with them?

Thank you or the suggestion! I took a look at their website but nothing seemed like it would fit my rifle. I'm actually pretty shocked, I thought the CZ was popular enough that getting something for it would be a snap.

Put one of these in a slip on version on my 458 Lott and it made a BIG DIFFERENCE!

Maybe consider a grind to fit variant and have your gunsmith install it for you?

It's a relatively inexpensive job.. I think my gunsmith charges about $65 (plus the cost of the pad) to do a pad job.. And that includes adjusting LOP if needed...

That's a great idea! I'm hoping they can drill it out to allow for a muzzle break if I want one eventually so why not have them put on a pad to lol. On that note, anyone have experience with mercury core recoil reducers?

Thank you all as always!

I take you mean a recoil reducer not a muzzle break. If you do get a recoil reducer don't get one of the mercury ones.

Hi there! I meant a muzzle break in addition to a recoil reducer lol. Why would you advise against the mercury recoil reducer?
Mercury dissolves Aluminium, ie the plane. It is listed as a dangerous goods inn the aviation world and requires special permission to be consigned/carried on an aircraft. Now there probably are thousand of them flying and the likely hood of one leaking is very remote. However with more and more checked baggage being xrayed it is only a matter of time before questions are asked. If one way or another the airline/authorities find out/discover the person has attempted to, or actually placed mercury onboard an aircraft....well it depends on the law of your land. Here in Aust it would certainly be fronting Court and then possible hefty fine or jail and most likely loss of firearm. You would have to appeal to the court to have the reducer removed and firearm returned to you.

Doctors escorting a patient have been allowed to carry thermometers on board. A little mercury can cost millions and make an aircraft US. To me it is not worth the risk but each to their own.

Wow, I had no idea, thank you for the heads up!

Mercury thermometers are very rare today. Most have been replace with alcohol. And odds of the mercury escaping both the stock and the gun case are worst then hitting the lotto jackpot.

I use a foam & neoprene slip on recoil pad (made by A&E), over my factory pad to reduce the recoil on my 375 H&H, works very well, but after a while the foam start to compact. But at 10 bucks a pop, who cares.

Ha, I can see that, thank you for the suggestion!

I agree with everything you say however it is not me you have to convince.
There are several sorts of reducers, some with Tungsten balls in them, a weight with springs either side of it, these you can get for various levels of comfort.

I refered to the Mercury Thermometer simply because some still exist and I have seen the damage one for weather use did to a plane the size of a 737. Chewed threw a rib and 3 longerons.

Yes that was awhile ago, back in the early 90's.

I really do appreciate your help with this, I didn't know about that, nor the other kinds of reducers that are available. I've marked mercury clean off the list thanks to you.

I had my gunsmith put a Decelerator on my CZ 550, (should've gone for the red, but it works great!

I prefer Pachmayr also. I would say there are many more models of rifles that recoil pad producers don't make prefit pads for than models where prefit pads are available. And quite often the prefits don't fit. It's pretty common knowledge that Pachmayr and Limbsaver prefit pads for Marlin 336's, don't fit.

I've had grind-to-fit pads installed on a couple of shotguns and a rifle. I like the red pad too. The shotgun on the left has a red Pachmayr grind-to-fit pad.

I do not know if this is fact or not but have been told by credible people that mercury recoil reducers are a gimmick, that the only way they reduce recoil is by their weight alone. If true, I'd be inclined to add just add lead to the stock to reduce recoil.

I have used both types and prefer the limbsaver myself, but that's just personal preference. Go the grind to fit route and you will be fine. Might be cheaper in your area depending on gunsmith than mentioned above. My guy does it for $35.
As for the muzzle brake- do your hearing a favor and if you feel you need that go with a suppressor instead. You will like shooting it much better, be more accurate, and it still reduces recoil

Good morning everyone!

So I wanted to say thank you all for your input. I actually picked up the rifle (CZ 550 Safari America in .375) and it came with a Hiviz Xcoil recoil pad. I do not know a thing about this company, never even heard of them but I can tell you the recoil pad works great! I don't even know if it's worth replacing at this point. It's soft, it handles the recoil superbly and overall I have no trouble at all staying at the range and putting 40 shots through the rifle with it! I'm honestly afraid that if I replaced it whatever I got next wouldn't be as good so I suppose I'll just keep it. Again though, thank you all for all your input, I love this forum and the massive amount of information that is available via it's members!
