Does anyone have a gunsmith recommendation for rebluing a barrel?

I bought a used model 70 custom 470 Capstick that unfortunately has some finish loss and light pitting in a few spots on the side of the barrel from what looks like being left in a case.

The barrel is high gloss, and I think to achieve the best outcome it would be prudent to pull the barrel and have it rust blued.

Depending on where you live, any local reputable gunsmith who advertises bluing services is worth a call. Not all gunsmiths provide that service.

I live in Central WI. Most that I've talked to just cold blue. That would be a disservice to this rifle. I do a fair amount of my own gunsmithing but not blueing.

Same here.....When I need a service or repair that I can't do I just get on the web, swallow hard and search.

You could contact Winchester to see if you can send it to them for rebluing or if they have a certified gunsmith they use or recommend in your area.

Blue the barreled action. No need to take it apart--you'll also be assured color matches overall. In fact, how bummed out would you be if you took the barrel off, blued it and then scarred it up torquing it back on, lol? Now is the time to decide if you want gloss or matte, as well as inspecting the other hardware like trigger guards, etc. to see if they have wear that warrants a reblueing. It's no big deal to take care of them at the same time.

Rust bluing is not difficult to do yourself. If you do some smithing already and are handy then I am sure you could get a great result.
If you need a recipe or 2 let me know.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
