Purchased Another rifle I didn't know I needed, 7x64

Once again as a direct result of being a member here I purchased a rifle I couldn't live without. This makes 4 now.
.275 rigby on a military mauser action
Ruger African in 6.5x55
Whitworth 375
And now a Ruger MKII in 7x64
I waited 6 weeks hoping someone else would buy it at my local cabelas but finally gave in.
Mounting a scope this week and excited to get it going.
As a side note I've found remington 175gr online for only $20 a box so loaded up on some of those to get started.

some reason. been onsiderinn a mannlicher MCA but the M77 is a nice classic looking rifle.

Just a note. I'd been told cabelas would deal on used guns. They came down $300 pretty easily when I pushed on the price.
Plus I had to make a 100 mile drive twice to get it.

Usually when I contact Cabelas about one of their online guns I get one of the following responses:

That gun sold yesterday ...
We can not find that gun ...

Purchased a Styer-Mannlicher “Professional” (synthetic stock) over 40 years ago with a Zeiss variable scope. Came standard with a set trigger, hammer forged barrel with all metal parts treated with a military grade finish that, after several moose/caribou hunts in northern Newfoundland, and decades of occasional hunting, showed no degradation whatever. The rifle/cartridge is one on the most accurate I own and shoots better than I do. Great cartridge, flatter and a bit more powerful than a 7x57 with minimal recoil. Love it. Enjoy yours.

A very nice rifle Wade and I'm sure when you get to shooting it, you'll ask yourself why you didn't get it sooner! My experience with the Remington 2 diameter bullets isn't great. Best I could do in my CZ-550 was 6" and over. I pulled the Remington bullets and substituted some Speer 175 grain MagTips and the groups shrank to 1 1/2". So, if you can't get a good group try using another bullet and see if it improves. I got even better groups when I dumped out the powder charge and used an average of 10 rounds weighed for the charge.

Thank you for the info. I've always had good luck in the past in other calibers with the core lokt bullets so just grabbed them due to the good price.
We'll see how they shoot soon.

The 7x64 Brenneke is a fantastic caliber, and does ballistically very well. A real darling in South Africa under real gunmen and hunters

I have an M77 Mark II 7X64 as well... one of my favorite hunting rifles. I shot it for the first couple years with Sellier & Bellot ammo using the 173 grain SPCE (Torpedo style) bullet... I harvested all that brass and now load it with 150 grain Nosler Accubonds... very accurate, and effective on deer and bear.

Interesting that your stock is different than mine. I have no end cap and a black pad on mine.

There is a Ruger M77 in 7x64 in my watch list on Usedguns.com won’t be pursuing that one but a nice timber stocked on a solid Ruger action would be a nice addition for anyone wanting a nice rifle in a reasonable price point.

The 7x64 is a wonderful cartridge, congratulations on your new rifle. I’ve had a similar experience as 7x57 joe with the Remington 175 gr. Load. What a stinker! The two diameter bullets Remington used are designed for the short throat of the 7mm Rem Mag and do not properly fit the throat geometry of the 7x64. Bad accuracy in five rifles I tried them in. European loaded ammo has all been much more acccurate than that 175 gr. Remington load. Although I did have good accurate results with a Remington 140 grain factory load, it seems USA ammo companies don’t quite understand the 7x64 and usually promote factory loads and hand load data that is down loaded / reduced 280 Remington data. The 7x64 actually beats the .280 Remington in velocity with no more pressure in my experience. It’s a classic, efficient, deadly cartridge. Hope you enjoy yours.

Hopefully I'll get to go shooting this Friday and see how things go.
Sounds like I may have mistakenly trusted Remington as a name I knew when I bought the bullets.
If they don't shoot well I'll purchase some S&B as those are readily available online.

As predicted not very well with the Remington loads that I tried. Over 3moa on this first outing.
I've got some S&B ordered that I'll try in the next few weeks after it gets here.
Overall I do love the rifle itself though
