NAPHA continuously strives to promote and prove conservation through hunting. It is imperative that we as hunters strive to achieve just that in order to be able to secure a sustainable future for our wildlife, and therefore our profession and way of living. MET has approached NAPHA with suggestions as to a Namibian Hunting Trophy Measurement System that does not only prove our country’s diligence and earnestness in this conviction but also to be the first country to do so. The Erongo Verzeichnis, in the form of a working group, has applied its mind to developing a method of scientifically orientated aging of African Hunting Trophies, and has for many years worked on formulating a measurement system with the aim to create incentives to hunt truly old animals past their prime and to discourage the hunting of immature trophy animals altogether, ensuring genetic sustainability of trophy hunting (selective hunting). The Erongo Verzeichnis was magnanimous in dispensing their invaluable information and framework for a basis to establish a Namibian Hunting Trophy Measurement System. Kai-Uwe Denker has reworked this system so as to comply with the selective hunter in Namibia who aims to demonstrate conservation through hunting, as is required by MET.
A successful presentation was held by Kai-Uwe and Hagen Denker last week to present the proposed new system to MET.
Please note that the measurement system that was proposed to MET is NOT the Erongo Verzeichnis system, but used as the basis thereof and adapted.
