so-- I was just watching the NetFlix series on preppers-- I am not passing judgement on preppers-- but seriously where do they find these ass clowns? People who have just ludacris gun skills little to no safety and really samurai swords are a line of defense??? Wow no wonder liberal Merica is scared-- its shows like this the make some look like Zealots-- and the sad thing is these clowns pander to the camera -- ridiculous-- I dont care what your stand on prepping is -- these are the folks you see on cops or Florida.com -- no shirts, poor elocution, grammar and just trash folks. I personally am not a prepper -- but jeez there have to be some that have an organized approach and a reasonable foundation as to why --not just greenland is melting and Ima get mine!!@!!

I watched that back when it first came out. There are some real jokers, one kid had a baseball bat with nails in it for a weapon.

Then again, a no.2 pencil can do more damage to human tissue than empty hands. Lol...

Not a prepper, but would like to know where they are. I assume they will be the first to fall and leave behind a bunch of stuff I could use.......

I am a fan of Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead - purely for entertainment.

News media and television icons look for the crazy outliers to sensationalize their shows. I’m sure peepers run the full spectrum. I could go into the backwoods and find some folks that would lead you to the same conclusion about hunters. Don’t get sucked in by an irresponsible media.

Im sure folks outside of the shooting/hunting community would say that a stockpile of ammunition for the 10-50 guns you own is a form of prepping. Which it is as far as I'm concerned. When the SHTF I am convinced ammunition will be a form of currency. Along with booze!!! Among other things. Lol

Ha!...your right! you would think that vice expenses, ie: booze, cigarettes, etc. would be farther down the list of items a person would be trying to get after food, shelter, etc. but from my understanding they become even higher priority for some reason!!
Don't get me wrong I do enjoy my vices though so I guess I shouldn't say a word

Yeah, booze, DRUGS , caffeine and nicotine. Read One Second After - about an EMP strike. Great read.

As far as guns and ammo, how many guns can you carry and how much ammo? Also, what about resupply.

BAck when 22LR was so hard to get, people were convinced ammo would be currency.

Excellent book! TV has to sensationalize everything for ratings. If they chose all the “normal” folks I know that could be considered preppers it would make boring video. I live in the gulf coast and if you don’t prep for extended periods of no food, water and fuel you are an idiot. Another hurricane will come, with that civil unrest is always a possibility(Katrina)
Following me around with a camera crew while at moments would be shocking to some would not make video that would drive ratings. But the narrow eyed mouth breather that lives in a bunker and has a baseball bat and a super soaker full of acid makes the watcher wonder what that goofy bastard is gonna do next week!
Entertainment value is all anything on tv is, especially the news!

    Bullthrower,
I'm near Savannah, GA, Yeah prep for a hurricane and in case of Katrina - the civil unrest that follows,
I can't imagine how bad it would be here, given the demographics,,,

Houston did it right, good job...

I used ot gunsmith and watched the shows thinking "What idiots" but it's not exciting watching a man run a mill or lathe...

    Did you read the sequels?

I haven’t yet. The guy that I used to buy the books from quit coming to the gun shows. I later found out he passed away. He always had something for me stashed away, he could pull old sporting literature out of thin air it seemed.
Savannah is a beautiful place but you are correct, things can get Wild West there if the power went out for a spell.

Thanks for the accolade from Bullthrower for Houston. Don’t know Savannah that well, but I’ve lived in Houston since 1990. Been through Allison, Ike and Harvey. I moved here from New Orleans. Katrina didn’t surprise anyone who had ever lived in New Orleans. Houston is just different. Doesn’t make any difference what color your skin is. In a bind we all become Houstonians, Texans and Americans. I think I’ll stay here.

Well, they could do a show about my friends and me ("preppers,") but honestly, it would be pretty boring. We're IT people, sales, project management, a couple retired (and one current) police officer, a retired artillery officer, an owner of a sprinkler repair company, engineers...

We live our lives, and spend extra money every month on food, ammo, and other things most people never think about. For me, it started out as hurricane prep - I saw what happened to my sister's little berg in the wake of Katrina (they were without power and water for about 30 days). It grew from there.

Historically, we're all much more likely to die during periods of civil unrest or authoritarianism than from natural disasters. Let that one soak in.

As I recall when Slick William was pres, anything over about a dozen guns was considered an ARSENAL and any ammo more than 20 rounds was considered a STOCKPILE.
