Preferred powder for 25-'06?

SCrumbag - I only recently started messing with VihtaVouri powders - stumbled across a great deal o 4 lbs of N-150 that I am using for loads in my .404 Jeffery. Works well in 30-'06 and .375 H&H also. I've been wanting to try N-160/165 and N-560 in my 7mm RM, but no joy in finding any for sale yet.
I really like N160 for my 7x64 up to about 160gr. N165 for a single base, heavy pill powder (I have some 175gr Nosler Partitions that I am hoarding for a boar trip).

Scrummy

56 gr of RL 22 and a 100 gr ttsx would shoot .5 moa out of my weatherby vanguard. 117 gr hornady sp liked h4831 sc in my experience.
I once killed a 12 ounce mtn dew can with 4 consecutive shots at 400 yds from a bipod with the 117 gr h 4831sc combo
@Close Range
I bet there wasn't much left to skin on that can.
What speed were you getting with the117 and the Barnes

Your right there wasn’t. The sad part was it took 12 shots to hit it the first time cause my scope was twisted ever so slightly. If I remember correctly been more then 10 yrs ago but it was around 3000 and 3300 fps

That we old be with the Barnes, that would be stretching it with the 117s.
In my 25 the Barnes 100gn TTSX is at 3,670 fps and the 117grain SSTs are at 3,360fps.
Bob

117s were 3000 and 100 gr Barnes were 3300
Have you tried the 115gn balistic tips, 110gn interlinks or accubonds.
I hope to give the ballistic tips on fallow deer next week.
The speeds you are getting are great.
I was using H4831SC and then after much research switched to hogdon superformance. It's a tad slower than H4831SC and Re22.
I worked up to the same charge as H4831SC and got higher velocity at what appeared to be the same or lower pressure.

Bob have you used Superformance with 117STT's ? If so what were the results.

@OLB
The 117grain SST was doing 3,370fps snd was absolutely devastating on pigs as far away as was sensible. One at a layered 386 yards was just bang flop.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I asked the question "what core powders are consistently good on every weapon I shall own from small bores to large nitro weapons?".

The list isn't insanely long to have a few good ones for many, many applications.

IMR3031
RL15
RL19
IMR4895
IMR4350
IMR4831

*And the Hodgdon copies of above as applicable

Those powders for some amazing twist of fate seem to be labeled most accurate load tested in the broadest swath of cartridges from .200-.500 caliber.

I load for a 257 Roberts Ackley Improved which is very similar to the 25/06. I us two groups of bullets 90-100 gr and 115 -120 gr. I find H4350works well for the lighter bullets an H4841 for the heavier. I've used these powders for over 50 years so there may be newer powders that yield better performance- but these have worked well for me.

the only 25-06 i loaded for, i used 50 grs imr-h 4350 and the 117 gr hornaday sst bullet. rem 700 rifle and it was sub moa for three shots groups at 100 yrds.
@leslie hetrick
What about sub moa at 200 yards

Or sub half moa at 100

25s are capable of outstanding accuracy from the little 25-20 up to the 257 Weatherby and grat game taking abilities.
There's just something about 25s they just plain work.

i have a kimber montana in 257 roberts and it will keep 3 shots on a inch at 100 yards with 45 grs imr 4350 and a 115 gr bullet at 2800 fps(safe in my rifle). after three shots the groups start to open up, but its a walking-stalking rifle and comes in at little above 6 lbs scoped.

Try a different powder mate the 257 Roberts will comfortably do close to 3,000 fps with 117grain SST.
