Western companies can't "get in there " due to all the legislative restrictions put in place to do business in other countries.....China.. Russia don't have any of those restrictions at all....I would say 100% of how Chinese and Russian companies etc get contracts or open businesses over here , and most other continents they operate in would lead to Western companies being fined 100s of millions of usd..gbp..euro .....as has happened to them in the past....they can't operate on the same playing field as the Chinese and Russian bunch do.....
I am not sure it is at all that simple.

For instance, you are in Zambia right? Canadian companies like Barrick and FQM are doing rather well there and growing as far as I can tell.

There are plenty of ways for committed companies and government plans to make a ton of inroads in Africa.

Programs like PEPFAR were clear winners on many levels.

Things like the Sino-Metals disaster opens up lots of opportunity for the west to "get in there".

This is not a race we should be conceding quite yet.

Am well aware of fqm etc....but not long ago were looking at selling of parts of the mines.....changed their minds with the rapid rise in copper price and thrur issuesin panama i think it is.....what I said is pretty accurate....western companies are hesitant due to big fines inflicted on them from deals done in the past....how those deals were done are standard practice for Chinese and Russian companies as their governments let them operate how they want....you bring sino mines up....a cccp affiliated/ owned company...along with quite a few other big companies here.....

Pepfar was closed down.....partially operating again I think.....and mot sure what relevance it has as it wasn't a company/business.....

Again on the sino metals disaster.....usa or uk..European companies would have been taken to court in those countries if they had caused it.....do you honestly think the cccp gives a fk.....my opinion might be simple...but yours is in la la land

A history lesson

My first deployment. I was a nobody but was there in Oman in 1980 part of the Operation. And didn’t even know the larger goal. But still was awarded my first Navy Expeditionary Medal and didn’t know why we got it for some time until we learned about “Eagle Claw”

We had T shirts made later. “ I got my tan off the coast of Iran”

I think you have missed my point.

If the USA makes doing business with them some problematic that typical partners turn elsewhere for business they lose out. And in my mind, so do we, as Canadians, in the long term. But if the U.S. is offering shitty terms and the Chinese are offering better ones...

However, last time I checked, Chinese cheques cash just as well as American ones and Chinese exports have increased over the last year, not gone down.
Yes, the cheques will clear at first, but what will be the actual cost down the road? Once indebted to this "partner", I fear they will hold all of the cards.
You lay down with dogs, you risk getting fleas.

I think you are talking about the fines for various bribery schemes (I have done work for parts of the Zambian mining industry so I know that sector pretty well), but I don't have a problem with that. If one of the western goals is to reduce corruption then we can't just sit idly by and allow our companies to fuel the bribery culture. Sure, it's a disadvantage in competing in some instances, but there are plenty of western companies doing well enough in Africa to teach us it is not a lost cause.

Like Costco didn't buy out Massmart just for fun, they think they can make money there.

The UAE has decided that UK universities are dangerous centers for radicalization, apparently the UAE has canceled all support for citizens attending UK universities.

Apparently the UK ignored their warning back in 2017.....

This struck me as funny. And no, I did not read her book - it was in a news article I read.

In her book, “107 Days,” Harris — who met with Kelly in the final round of interviews while considering a running mate — called Kelly “magnetic.”

But she said she was worried he hadn’t had what she called an ”’oh s—’ moment” during his time in the Senate.

“I realized I couldn’t afford to test Mark Kelly in that ugly grinder,” Harris wrote.

And Tampon Tim WAS the answer??

:eek: :E Hmmm::ROFLMAO:

"Any residual optimism about the possibility of a swift compromise was dashed when, in the middle of the talks, the White House social media account posted a meme showing a pair of dog sleds representing Greenland confronted with a choice between an American flag bathed in sunlight and a lightning storm decorated with the Chinese and Russian flags. The caption read: “Which way, Greenland man?”

Un-freaking-believable.

Mark Kelly was a Navy fighter pilot (actually an attack pilot, as he flew an A-6) who flew combat missions, then a test pilot and finally an astronaut. Somewhere along the line, I'm guessing he has some "oh s---" moment."

Walz seems more like an "Oops I s--- my pants" sort.

I would go a step further and suggest the USA are not an "evil" in the long view. I think they are great neighbours, I just don't think much of the policies of the current administration.

My concern, which I think is probably like yours, is that the current trend of alienating allies forces those allies into the arms of bad actors for economic reasons. I am hopeful this is a short term problem and not a long term loss for a functional west. China is already all over AFrica with Belt and Road, and I think the west really needs to get in there in a positive way to continue to compete.
Must be watching Canadian version of CNN every day!!!!!!!!! America is climbing out of the toilet the last administration put us in.

Are there any real people who actually read books like that?

My suspicion is NGOs buy all the copies, using our tax money.

For those who believed the ICE agent who shot that woman was just tapped, DHS has confirmed he suffered abdominal internal bleeding as a result…
Attemped murder while fleeing a crime scene. We can debate whether he made the best call but it certainly seems that the ICE agent made a justified call in defending himself.

I feel like some on here already regard me with suspicion because of my rabid affinity for lever actions. I don't need anyone thinking I would crack open a book - and it hurts to call it that - such as Kamala's, um, effort.

:p

...
No one on the other side is going to believe it after the initial statements by Trump and Noem. They need to put out medical data for it to be believable.

So Kamala thinks Mark Kelly is “magnetic”?
His face always looks like he’s trying to poop a
cocklebur pod he swallowed a couple days earlier.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
