Picked Up Heym Martini Express 416 Rigby

Wow, this turned into a perfect DG setup wit the scope. Odd question, can you tell me the outside diameter of the ocular tube on the riflescope (to clarify that is the eye-end of the scope? How do you like the scope overall? I am thinking about getting one myself..
I just measured the widest part of the ocular tube or the eyepiece and it is 5 5/8 inches or 5.625 inches in diameter. Just barely enough bolt clearance with the 19mm High Talley QD lever rings which are .5 inches. Whew!

As far as the Leupold 6HD 1-6x24 30mm Patrol Firedot scope, I love it! I prefer the adjustment knobs capped on a DG rifle. I know many folks like this scope on a DG rifle. @Mark Biggerstaff uses one on his 458 Lott and it has held up fine, he’s really happy with it and so does @Mark A Ouellette , he has the same rifle and scope setup as mine. Lots of other AH members who like this scope too.

Leupold has discontinued the Patrol version of the 6HD 1-6 with the capped adjustment turrets. AH Sponsor EuroOptic still has them half off for $699.99. I highly recommend you buy one while they still have them!

Brendon, Thank you very much for the quick reply. I apologize for doubting you but it just cannot be 5 inches. That is a palm with. I expected somewhere around one and a half to up to 2 inches. Perhaps your caliper was set on centimeters? Thank you regardless, Ferenc

Sorry, maybe I’m misunderstanding you? The Talley high rings I have for 19mm base are .5 inches or 1/2 inch, did you not see the decimal? I believe Talley has .5 inch High rings and .6 inch extra high rings.

Brendon,

I apologize, it looks I am not phrasing myself clearly. I am wondering what the outside diameter of the ocular of the riflescope. I know that the main tube outside diameter is 30 mm, I am wondering what is the diameter of the ocular (eyepiece). This is what you said originally; "ocular tube or the eyepiece and it is 5 5/8 inches or 5.625 inches in diameter" I wonder if that is a typo and it should be 1 5/8"?
Thank you for your help, Ferenc

I apologize I intended to mean 5 5/8 inches or 5.625 inches in circumference! Not diameter! My calipers are buried somewhere but I believe it’s close to 1 5/8 inches in diameter, it’s a little wider before the eyepiece adjustment. Apparently I did not retain my geometry lessons!

So this is the exact setup I will take for Kruger buffalo and a hyena this October. Lots of time to get more acquainted with this rifle.

Yes, this would be great!

That is close to a perfect rifle... it should be a joy to hunt with. Congrats.

Thanks! I don’t think I could improve upon it. Although it does have a 24” barrel, I won’t shorten it! :)

I prefer short barreled rifles, particularly larger bores... but I wouldn't touch that one either... good luck in the field with it.

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
