If you saw my WTB ad a while back, you know I was looking for a 6.5 Swede or 9.3x62 so I looked around and managed to snag one each from Simpsons.

Both are Husqvarna Model 640's. Commercial FN Mauser 98 actions with barrels and stocks made in Sweden. Neither stock is cracked and I'll keep it that way by relieving some wood around the tang and bedding the actions. Will put a 3-Position wing safety on both as I'm not a fan of the flag safeties, though they are perfectly functional. Timney triggers will also be added to make a great rifle even better! Eventually, I'd like to re-stock these with nice walnut.

Top is 6.5x55 (my absolute favorite hunting cartridge). Born in 1949. Stock needs work (you can see that someone cut it and then re-added a spacer) but the action is so smooth. Not a fan of the oversized bolt knob so if anyone knows how to get it off, let me know. Will most likely scope this one.

Bottom is 9.3x62. Born in 1953. Probably gonna go with an aperture sight on this one. Action isn't as smooth (yet ;)) but I can tell you it's because this thing has been fired very little.

I am looking for the exact same rifle, that is the second one.

Nice rifles! The Scandinavian "winter knobs" that I have seen on Husqvarna rifles are just rubber, and twist off and on with a friction fit over the original round steel bolt knob. I like them, but that's because I often hunt in cold weather with gloves on.

(y)I did wonder about a slip on knob cover, but dismissed it as a silly idea, obviously I was wrong on that point
I do like the look of the second rifle, has that no nonsense look about it

Hornady makes one… they’re super affordable and easy to install…

How was the buying experience with Simpsons?

Extremely easy. Just gave them a call. I spoke with Leroy in sales and he pulled the items I was looking for, so he put actual hands on to make sure the rifles I was looking for hadn’t been sold or put on hold by another sales representative. From there he went over their respective conditions and asked whether I had any questions. After that, i gave him my FFL’s info along with my credit card information and 3 days later I had them in my hands. I’m sure the next time will be even quicker since I now have my account info set up with them.
