Only 112 tourists land at Hosea Kutako airport

America warns against travel to Namibia

The tourism revival initiative is failing miserably with only 112 tourists landing at Hosea Kutako International Airport since the airport was opened to foreign tourists.

However, according to an information document sent to the tourism industry on Tuesday about last week's meeting of the tourism task force with the ministries of environment, forestry and tourism, health and social services, and works and transport, some of these tourists are returning Namibian citizens and residents. who came in as tourists to circumvent quarantine.

Meanwhile, there is no hope on the horizon for the sinking tourism industry with America issuing a travel warning to its citizens against Namibia on Monday due to Covid-19.

The US Embassy in Namibia announced on its website on Monday that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 travel health notice for Namibia due to Covid-19.

Level 3 means travel to a country must be reconsidered and at level 4 American citizens are warned not to travel to a country at all.

GERMANY

In Germany, Namibia is also still listed as a high-risk country with regulations requiring a traveler traveling from a high-risk country to Germany from 10 October to go into self-isolation for 10 days.

This means that German tourists who come to Namibia and return to Germany must first go into self-isolation for 10 days and are subject to a Covid-19 test.

Only Namibians with German passports can visit Germany, but according to the German Embassy in Namibia, visas will only be issued in exceptional cases to, among others, health workers, transport staff, seasonal agricultural workers and seafarers.

Temporary visits will be allowed for family members of German and European Union citizens for family reasons such as births, weddings, deaths and funerals.

This also applies to diplomats, military personnel and those of international organizations, humanitarian aid organizations, travelers in transit, and persons in need of international protection, including urgent medical reasons.

Applications from skilled and highly qualified workers such as scientists, researchers and business travelers also apply. It also applies to students who cannot continue their studies outside Germany and pupils who live in a residence for at least six months.

ERROR IN BRAZIL

The mockery is driven by the Namibian ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Samuel Nuuyoma, about his blunders during a TV interview in his attempt to market Namibia as a tourist destination.

He boasts Namibia is the only country where you can get "natural air conditioning".

"You can climb mountains, climb the dunes and roll down the dune. You can see the sunset at Spitzkoppe and ask if the sun is setting in the sea or under the earth, ”says Nuuyoma.

He also says the only place you can go on safari is in Namibia. The interviewer helps him right and says he probably means in Africa.

Nuuyoma also boasts about the wild animals in Etosha: "Sometimes you do not know if the animals can talk."

Meanwhile, jokes and memes are pouring in on social media driving the mockery of Nuuyoma. However, some believe he is an embarrassment to Namibia and should be recalled as ambassador to Brazil.

KASSIE

BLAPS IN BRASILIë
