One of the greats has passed

He lived 20 miles from me in Warrenton, VA. Bob Duvall was a very humble man.
Met he and his lovely wife by accident once in Middleburg, VA around 2007 or 8 while we were still living outside Leesburg. We were both picking out steaks at the best butcher shop in that corner of the state. Chatted a few minutes while our cuts were trimmed. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to personally thank him for the joy his brilliance had given me for so many years.

Assassination Tango (2002) - also the movie through which he met and then married his costar Luciana Pedraza.

He wasn't bad in Open Range, either. Probably lots more will come to mind.
One of my favourite scenes in cinema is the exchange and handshake behind the wagon between him and Costner leading up to the gunfight in open range.

I ran into him in at the courthouse in Waco, Texas about 15 years ago and he took time to shake hands with everyone and seemed very genuine. In the late 1980s we were at a BBQ joint and he was hanging with Willie Nelson and Lou Gossett Jr. All three of them were personable as could be. Great carer and life well lived!

"They really lived" one of the best lines out of Secondhand Lions. One of my favorites was buzzing the sleeping sheriff in the biplane. He will be missed.
Just watched this with the kids Friday.

Perhaps the line that is most appropriate now:

"By God, Woodrow, it's been one hell of a party."

RIP Robert Duvall

Think, I'll go tune up "Joe Kid" (1972) for a too long delayed rewatch. A turn of the century western with Eastwood and with Duvall as the villain. It includes an amazing collection of turn of the century weapons demanded by the writer Elmore Leonard.

A LOT of people don't know about that--he would arrange to tango while on sets in other countries, but then, I believe I have read that you like to drag the occasional tango queen across the floor from time to time?
Yep, we dance every week and attend international tango festivals and marathons. The picture is from a tango marathon in Cyprus.

Days of thunder was my favorite growing up.

Charlie don’t surf - one of the greatest movie lines of all time.

RIP PFC Duvall. Thank you for the memories and entertainment.

His performance in "The Apostle" was superb.

He had to have actually spent time with old southern preachers to pull that off.

He nailed it!

Completely forgot about that one. Great performance!

Although I have not watched all of his movies, he was superb in every one that I have seen. RIP, he will be missed.

Y’all stated the obvious, but let’s give some love to Sergeant Martin Prendergast from the early 90s classic Falling Down!

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
