On an upcoming vacation to SA (see some sharks, penguins, coat-tail relatives, Victoria Falls, game parks, etc., I'd like to book a short hunt (5 days maybe) but.....I only want to shoot one animal; a zebra. I like the idea of stalking other game, hanging at camp, etc.

But is it realistic? Will an outfitter even book such a thing? Am I just wasting a PH's time? Can I tip generously to make up for it?

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

I am fairly confident you will find an outfitter to accommodate you. Business is business!

Someone will step up with a deal. And if you have five days - well bring some extra cash.

    Hammerguy....

    welcome aboard....

I bet that if you're not too picky you could get quite a few animals if you are good with the iron.

    Good luck.

You pay the day fees and you get to use the days how you wish.
If you're up front about your goals, you'll be fine.
    Good luck.
    Welcome to the posting side.

    Hello Hammerguy
We would also love to show you our beautiful ranches.
To hunt a zebra on foot is a challenging hunt. Some people think it is like shooting a donkey but that is not the case. Will be delighted to guide you on a zebra hunt.
Trophy fee on zebra is $1350.
Pick up and drop off point is Johannesburg.
    Sincerely
    Hans de Klerk

Hammerguy, thank you for posting. Id like to offer you a one stop 5 day vacation.
We can stay at our Thornybush private lodge, where you can enjoy the Big 5 Photographic experience, we are open to the Kruger National park so free movement of game. We will hunt the Zebra at a nearby concession of mine and once you get him we continue with the Game viewing drives and walks. That way you do not need to move destinations. If you wanted to visit the Kruger park the closest gate is about 45 min drive away so a day visit is also easily arrange able.
If you have any interest please contact me at info@spearsafaris.com.

All the best in your search. That’s some serious self control if you can hunt 5 days solely in pursuit of one African species. Shoot just looking over trophy lists I feel like a fat kid in the candy store, so many pretty things I like!

Thank you! I've been lurking here for seven years, soaking it all in....planning my safari.
I can't believe how much amazing information is on this site. I don't need to ask questions, I can just search forums and find every answer!
The volume and quality of responses to this first little question is so impressive too. Thanks to all. I lurk other sites where I'd expect no more than a broken sentence if even a response that wasn't some sort of lecture.
Now, "Planning for 7yrs!?!" I hear some already asking.
I love chasing turkeys in March/April/May. You bounce across a half dozen states for three months, beggin' for long weekends and apologizing for inevitable delays and the boss expects some serious effort and attitude adjustment out of you over the summer! The significant other also expects a fancy vacation that exceeds the price of all the money (she knows about) that was spent on hunting. By the time September rolls around I'm itchin' to get behind the dogs for some grouse and in October I can't get enough of the greatest bird on earth - woodcock! November has always been special hunting whitetails with dad. Last year would have been 35yrs but I lost my favorite hunting partner to a stupid traffic accident. He never had an ounce of interest in doing anything but "shootin' a deer in the woods". This year I'll go back out there in his honor. By then it's the holidays and the boss is sick of stories about grouse fan colors and woodcocks' evasive flight patterns and deer sticks/jerky/sausage/etc. Work hard in January and Febuary because when it's March my Thermacell and I will be in Florida.
SO, who can also help find me a 13th month that nobody but us hunters know about?!

Zebra hunting can be a great challenge and don’t forget to eat some of the tenderloin and liver, delicious!
