How many are watching the Winter Olympics?

Ice Dancing, aka Prancing I'm forced to watch.

The Downhill? Oh yeah! The wind whipping all over my body as I sail downhill at 90 miles an hour while eating a York Peppermint Patty! I'd do that.

I find quite a few winter Olympic Sports entertaining, but I personally think the hardest is the Biathlon. Trying to shoot while your chest is heaving and your heart is racing has to be the most difficult type of shooting I've ever done.

Without being immodest, I'm a superb shot with a precision rifle from standing offhand, kneeling, sitting and prone positions, but race around a track for time and starve my heart and lungs of oxygen and it all goes to CRAP!

The Grandstands at the Biathlon are full of spectators and I truly enjoy watching these athletes give it all in their shooting and skiing.

Anyone else watching the Biathlon shooters?

Was watching the men's 10KM sprint the other night. I love watching it far more than anything judged.

The person last in any olympic sport is in better shape than I will ever be but when sport has a judge element to it its a popularity contest. Look at the pairs skating and the French judges bullshit.

The sports judged against a distance or a time are the best.

Before they used more or less service rifles in
Biathlon . 6,5mm , 7, .303, and so on

Soviets used 7,62-54 and a 6,5x54 Vostok
The Vostok was in both .257 and .264 . Ballistic like 6,5-06 in their loads .

Norway rifle was M59 Kongsberg in .30-06 post war . Gradually it was downsized to various .22 s to begin with.

In the Nordic countries, full bore rifles are used quite often in this type of shoot. A Moose Shoot is very similar and targets are between 50 and 200 meters.

Rimfire 22s make it easier to have a proper backstop and less damaging for competitors and spectators. Going to the 22 just made sense because it levels the playing field.

A high 90% of shooters use the Anschutz 1827

Love watching biathlon, did it when I was young. You should try it some time. It’s a hoot. First few times you can’t even get it in target.

Curling is also a lot of fun.

Does curling with the girlfriend or wife count?

I have a friend who is a biathialete and he's a riot to take elk hunting.

I once asked him if he planned on shooting a elk or just run it down?

There is a reason they no longer call it military patrol or ski-shoot.

I will call you out @skydiver386. Nobody forced you to watch anything!

This evening I watched mens’ downhill, curling (which I don’t understand), womens’ skeleton (pretty wild) and now mens’ giant slalom. Great athletes from all countries!

That “ Ski Field “ shoots , full bore rifles used in target matches some areas .

But look up Bredvold stocks , how many medals and competitions those have won is unknown
. Often all the teams have competed against each others with same stock . A red thread connecting many nations rivalry .

Otherwise it’s .22Lr for decades .

I met one of the
Ex DDR competitors when
I was kid , he was up in region , and I got to see his rifle and others . What fascinated me was the type he used . A straight pull but you repeated with the grip . That was DDR design and you didn’t have to move the hand to reload . Just tilt up and down .

Curling, aka the Olympic Floor Sweeping Competition.

I watched the women's biathlon this morning. Amazing athletes. Wasn't long before I was on Anschutz website pricing rifles. I would love to have one of those.
I frequently see Biathlon air rifles, as some use them for training for youth summer Biathlon events. I've seen both running and bicycling Biathlon matches for youth.

The Anschutz rimfire Biathlon rifle are a rarity.

With the shooters we have and the athletes we have in the U.S., it's a shame we have never won a medal in this event. We tend to separate shooting and aerobic sports here, but let's hope that changes.

Considering the nature of curling it actually works well in the mixed format.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
