Hi, New here. I’m looking to go on a 2023 safari. I have no specific countries or species I want. Just want adventure and a trip of a life time. Oh and plains game (no big 5 or expensive dangerous game).
Up until a few days ago I hadn’t considered taking the entire family (three kids 11-16) because of budgetary reasons. But I found John X safaris and they offer waived daily rates for children under 18. So basically, I could bring the kids along for the price of travel.
The kids would love It.
So my question is, is there any other outfitters I should look at that offer similar deals for children? Or is John x It?
thanks

For a first safari you should look at outfitters in South Africa or Namibia. John X safaris has a very good reputation. As far as your kids coming along free, you really just need to ask different outfitters for a package quote to compare costs, don’t just look at the price list. Some may be more expensive than John X and some may be less expensive. I wouldn’t look at it so much as they are coming along for free. I’d look at it as a package price. There are a lot of good opportunities if you continue searching. It’s generally good business for an outfitter to offer deals like you described especially if they own their lodge because everyone will use same truck, probably shoot a few extra animals, and leave happier for the cost of meals. I’m sure John X will give you a great hunt, but since you are just starting to look I’d explore other options to know what is out there.

Thank you. That’s what I’m trying to do by asking here about other outfitters.

Otjandaue hunting Safaris in Namibia not only offers free stay for my son but also he can shoot some animals.
Very nice family.

Go to Namibia.

Any particular outfitters?
You really need to define what you want to get some quality answers. If you create a new post in the offers section something like “wanted first safari” you’ll get a huge amount of information from the sponsors in this site. If you are looking for the best value, eastern cape is probably your best bet. If you are looking for shortest travel to maximize your days off Limpopo is probably right for you. If you are looking for high trophy quality and relatively undeveloped land but willing to pay a little more Namibia is best. There are big differences in wildlife, landscapes, and experience depending where you go. You really need to define more of what you want. Pick a few key species you want and your overall budget and you can get some much better advice.

As @375Fox states you need to refine/define your desires, wants, needs, species, type of hunt, accommodations and many more details. Do a search on this site as there are many threads concerning not only what to ask but how to ask. Once you have what you want generally figured out (on spreadsheet works best for me) then ask as many outfitters as you can email. Start with all the ones on this site, then narrow down search by those that answer all your questions the way you want and fill all checks. I am sure most outfitters will welcome your whole family and many should/would wave daily rates or provide a minimal rate for your children.

Be warned, you are creating monsters, in the BEST way possible. Your spouse and children will talk about this for their whole lives, some may even get the "disease" and return many times. What memories you will create. =awesome.

Good job.

John X runs a quality operation. Carl and his crew will show you and your family a wonderful time in the Eastern Cape.

All the best with your research.

Dear Cbump
Welcome to this great forum where you would have fun gathering information for your first African safari.
Enjoy the planning process for your family safari.
Before you know it, it is time to board your plane...

Hi @Cbump

Welcome to the AH community!
I have send you a Personal Message

My son (14 yo, then) was observer for free.

I waited many years to get enough money to take the whole family. It was the best move I ever made.

I now play the bonus offers on United Airlines credit cards to get award flights. It takes out of reach trips and allows the whole family to go. You can do it with several other airlines also.

good luck!

Welcome to the forum! Feel free to browse around some great outfitters here. With that said John x (Carl van Zyl) and his crew does a great job.
Search around, ask questions I’m sure you’ll find exactly what you are looking for.

May best always.

Hello @Cbump,

We at Limcroma Safaris have created a niche for ourselves as specialists in hosting couples & families on safari. A family safari in Africa has so much to offer beyond hunting... Family safaris can and should include non-hunting excursions like visits to the National Parks and game preserves. We also encourage and facilitate visits to the local school and village where the family will get to spend time with he local children and see first-hand how their culture lives and learns. Many of our guests get great satisfaction by donating game meat, school supplies, and other essential items to the school during their visits. It's a very educational and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

At Limcroma Safaris we put families and especially the children, high on our priority list. Every family safari package at Limcroma includes our Nature Conservation Education program. This consists of a fun-filled, one-day activity, where our qualified field guides will host our guests on an educational, hands-on bush outing where they will interact with the flora & fauna of our own unique Limpopo biomes. Limcroma's NCE course will leave all who partake with a greater knowledge, understanding, and a new perspective on hunting, the wildlife, and the roles they play in conservation.

If you are interested in the ultimate family safari package, please feel free to contact us for more details. We have some excellent daily rates for family groups, and some very creative options that will deliver the total safari package for you and your family. Our short video below will give you a very good idea of what you can expect on a family safari with us!
