I have some 600 grain woodleighs coming but I need to double check if they will fit in the magazine of my rifle. I have a Sako Brown Bear and the max OAL for the mag box is right at 3.500" 570gr Swift's fit with a bit to spare and 570 Hornady DGS fit when crimped on the canelure and they have just a little bit to spare.
Does anyone have any idea what the OAL of a loaded 500 Jeffrey is with a 600 grain woodleigh crimped on the canelure?
@Aussie_Hunter I saw you had a post on this a while back, do you still have any data on those?

Just looked at my data, sorry mate I didn't record the COL, having said this when I haven't recorded the COL this usually means that I wasn't close to the max COL at normal seating depths for that particular bullet, so I wouldn't be too concerned. I do have some loaded still that I could measure if you really want.
The load is Bertram brass, Federal LMR gold medal primers, 113.5 grains of RL17 puts it an average of 2205fps from the Blaser 23.5" barrel.

Thanks man. I saw in the pic on your thread that the woodleigh box says 500 Jeffrey on it, so I would assume that the canelure is set so that when the bullet is loaded to the canelure then the OAL is within SAMMI spec, which is 3.45 and therefore would fit in my rifle. If you get a chance to measure one that would be good, but it's no big deal, judging by the fact that those bullets are designed for the Jeffrey then they should work.

Correct they are specifically made for the 500 Jeffery so I guarantee you won’t have any problems but I will measure one when I get a chance and let you know.

I would also recommend measuring the jump to the lands as some rifles are short in these departments.

600 grain Woodleigh loaded in brand new Bertram brass, can't really see in the photo but there is a tiny bit of the cannelure groove to spare. So yeah its nearly at max COL, I measured 3 rounds I have loaded with these projectiles and they all measured the same.

Awesome. Thanks for the help, yep that is just about max for my magazine box but I think it will work.

The col is CIP length for 500j on your Brown Bear. I have one in 500l.
I was not happy as it becomes a longer col whe you use TSX or Banded solids. Sako just does not have magazine to support that with out seating them deeper.
Any way I went and got a CZ 550 AHR #3 upgraded NIB. CZ CAN TAKE THE LONGER COL.. Factory Aframe work just fine in them.

Just measured my loads as follows.
With a 600gr PP, OAL 3.435
With a 570gr RNSN, OAL 3.485

If you need more mag length, you can remove the spacer at the front of the mag box. You’ll get about 3.780.
