Bruce, I tried loading up some 120 Gr. Barnes for my grandson, looking to reduce recoil since he is only 8 years old. Accuracy wasn't what I'd hoped for. I was using H4350 / AR2209 powder. What powder charge did / do you use? Just for clarification the rifle is a 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser. The rifle shot much better with factory Norma & 156 Gr Oryx bullets. I normally use 140 Gr NPs and had no prior experience with the 120 Gr Barnes.

The 6,5x57R is my darling since decates, I use it in a single-shot Krieghoff.

With win 760, I set max pressure at 57K as a bench mark for the small ring 98 action.

yes deer seem to be relatively susceptible to shock, and the privy will give you that.
within your range parameters trajectory is not an issue.

shootist 43,
I have not shot the 120 gn barnes in 6.5.
I have had experience with the 120 gn sierra using 2209, primarily on feral goats in 6.5x55 and 6.5/06,
as well as the 100gn sierra hp on goats in 6.5/06.
in 6.5/06 2213 was used (not 2213sc) which had a burn rate like IMR 4831, a bit faster than h4831.
I cannot remember any loads, but do remember that the 06 case did not deliver the speeds hoped.
the 100 gn sierra was surprisingly harder than expected.
both bullets shot faster and flatter than 140s, and the game was light bodied, more suited to open mountainous terrain.
experience with barnes in 7mm led to my comment re the 120 gn 6.5 bullet.
suspicion is that it will penetrate better than privy, but offer less shock effect.

von gruff,
interesting you use 760.
I remember using 785 in 270 win, just because I could throw charges as accurately as weighing.

Had it loaded for years but lost it last computer meltdown. Had borrowed the disc from a friend and could do so again but have all the load data I will need for the rifles I have or will ever get.

Hello Milan, I just watched your video on disassembling/reassembling the CZ 550. I have spent days looking for something like this. I now have no reservations taking apart my rifle. I like to do this with all my guns so I understand them "inside and out". Thank you very much for the information. It is greatly appreciated.
