This is an excellent site for African hunting. Have been impressed with the level
of articles and PH experience.
Have homestead land in Alaska, with a cabin on the NM-AZ border area.
Alaska is challenging as one may be hunting caribou or moose,
and bump into Mr. Grizzly. Both hunting and fishing are superb.
African DG and plains game is unmatched. Prefer pre-64 Model 70s
in 375 H&H or 338 Winchester M-but also use a 35 Whelen and 338-06;
all in older Winchesters. Hunting might be too demanding for any other
rifles, based on my experience. Reliability is critical.

Love the 338 Win Mag, Have one in a Ruger No.1, and just picked up a No.1 in 375 H&H.
Wouldn't be packing those in Grizzly country though.

You have some favorite Africa firearms. Any hunts on the horizon?

Hello and welcome!

Welcome to AH!

Welcome, with envy for your arsenal and for the hunting chances you have!

Welcome aboard 450 Fuller. Just curious, what firearm is in your Avatar? A lot of us share your preference for pre 64 Winchesters. I for one would be interested in seeing hunting reports and photos of your Alaskan endeavors.

Hello 450 Fuller,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

Also, I advertise for Khomas Safaris of Namibia but, just like yourself I have original homestead land in Alaska.
Mine is along the banks of the Little Willow, about 75 miles north of Anchorage.
I live full time in Anchorage.
And the cabin I built 20 years ago, up north, burned to the ground during a substantial forest fire, locally known as: “The Sockeye Road Fire”.

Anyway, I’m having difficulty figuring out where your cabin is, “along the NM-AZ border”.
The only thing I can come up with is, New Mexico - Arizona border.
If your Alaska homestead land and your cabin are in two separate parts of North, America or, if the NM-AZ border are perhaps the initials for some place in Alaska that I am not familiar with, please forgive my ignorance.

Last but not least, your taste in rifles and cartridges for Alaska is excellent.
All 3 of the bear species here in our wilderness rich state should beware the well practiced man who carrys a proper rifle and is quick willing to use it.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

Giday 450 Fuller. Welcome to the A H fourms.

Welcome to AH and the posting side! Great to have you here.

Velo:

The AZ-NM area is S. of the Blue and Alpine, about 35 crow miles W. from Mule Creek, NM.
Cherry Lodge, AZ off AZ 191 a few miles. Elk and mule deer with Coues Wtails and bear-mtn lion..

Last moose was shot near Wien Lake, AK. in the deep interior 45 miles SW of Nenana.
Cabin is 10 miles S. of Wien Lake, near Ose Mtn., AK. Rifle was a 1940s Model 71 Winchester
chambered in 348 Ackley Improved with a 270 gr Hawk bullet. 71s and 1886 Winchesters still
hanging on in Canada and Alaska. Reliable repeat shots may be necessary for cantankerous or
irritated bears.

The shotgun is a 1920s AH Fox-XE Grade. These are getting rarer as is the Super Fox 3in for geese and turkey. Lucky to own both and a boat full of pre-war Model 71 .348s. And a pre-war 71-in 450 Alaskan.

From one hunting Fuller in Alaska to another... welcome.
