Glad to be a member of this community, looking forward to learning and passing on knowledge.
I am a 60 year old male that loves hunting. I have hunted mainly in Australia but have also hunted in Namibia
I am a keen reloader and have been doing it for about 40 years . I also enjoy oddball caliber and think they should be kept alive so people can understand and appreciate them.
    My current rifles are a
    Stevens 200 converted to 35Whelan
    A p14 converted to 25/303 Epps improved
An 1885 original low wall converted to 22K Hornet.
I have just sold an SMLE number 4 action converted to 444 Marlin what an awesome weapon that was.
Well that's a brief overview of me.
    Cheers
    Bob Nelson

Once again Bob, glad to have you here with us! It sounds like you have lots of experience to help us with!
I have always wanted a 22 K-Hornet! It should help alleviate some of the issues with the old Hornet. I used a standard Hornet for years on wild turkeys, bobcats, jackrabbits, raccoons, and foxes. I have debated many times whether or not I should get another. But my 222 and 223s can be loaded for most anything it could do and more.

Welcome aboard Bob. Your 35 Whelen is going to be right at home in Africa. Just make sure that you bring your own ammo. The locals use an almost identical cartridge known as the 9.3 x 62, even though they are ballistic twins they can't be interchanged. My oldest son used 250 Gr. loads in his Whelen , my youngest son and I used 225 Gr. loads in ours, both were very effective. What load do you use for your Whelen?

I use either a 225grain accubonds with 60.5 grains of Varget, or 225grain woodleigh with 61 gn of hogdon cfe223 both loads turn up over 2,850fps out of my 25 inch barrel.
I tried the Speer 250gn hot with 64gn cfe223 @ 2,700fps. That load gets your attention when you pull the trigger.
Fortunately all the loads I have tried all group within 1/2 inch of each other @ 100 yards.
My best group was one and a half inch 10shot group using 5 different types of projectiles. Happy with that.
I will try and attach a photo of a couple of projectiles I retrieved. 1 accubonds and woodleigh . 20191122_214031.jpg

You have some great trophies an memories from Africa mate, where did you go and what caliber did you use. By the looks of things you where there just before us.
My family hunted Namibia this year in August and September with Osombahe Nord safaris run and owned by Harold and Liezel. Great trophies and even better hosts, couldn't as for better people.
    My son use a .308 Howa, I used the good ol' 35Whelan. 20191031_214852.jpg 20191101_150919.jpg IMG_20190907_163945.jpg FB_IMG_1574818123707.jpg FB_IMG_1574818097708.jpg

The main loads I use are as follows. These have been worked up in my rifle but work up from 4 grains lower.
The accubonds load is directly from the nosler site and the Speer 250gn hot is from their site
    1) 225grain accubond
    60.5grains of Varget
    Chronoed velocity 2,850fps
    2) 225 grain woodleigh
    64grains of cfe223
    Chronoed velocity 2,950fps me 4,200fpe++
    3)250grains Speer hotcore
    6grains of cfe223
    Chronoed velocity 2,720fps
When you touch this load off it really gets you attention.
Cfe223 sits half way between Varget and H4350 in burn rate and I have found it excellent in the Whelan, gives high velocity with rounded primers and easy bolt lift with easy extraction and normal case head expansion.
All loads tested gave less than 1 inch groups, the best being a flukey half inch group.
Looking forward to hearing from you mate. My kudu was shot at around 90 yards front on. The 215 accubond was found in his ham, ran 20yards and nose dived into ground. 20191031_214245.jpg
