Hi all.
Just joined the site from Nz. Came across it while doing my usual trawl for anything that involves Dangerous game, plains hunting or big bore rifles.
I'm an avid hunter, and have been from a young age, mostly targeting large red stags and the smaller sika counter parts here in nz, but i have a huge interest in world wide hunting in general and have been lucky enough to explore many fine places on this planet.

My mother was originally from zim, my farther of British decent but lived in zim for 20 years before coming the land of the long white cloud. I have an uncle that lives in SA, and recently lost the biggest influence in my hunting career which was my grandfather, a live long hunter with a huge passion for the outdoors.
Hopefully ill get plenty involved here and hope to learn a thing or ten from all
Thanks

gday goon
welcome to AH , enjoy the site.
sorry for the loss of your grandfather , bloke .
was he he a pom or a zimbo

Cheers guys
Bluey, he was a true zimbo, an engineer by trade worked and lived around renco mines if my memory is correct, and spent time as a PH around the place as well.

He sounds like a man amongst men goon
Can see how he would be a major influence in your life

Thanks mate yeah he was a man to ride the river with for sure. Only regret is never getting out to take a cape buff by his side. Would have been a great experience, but still I learned alot from his guidance.

Welcome!

Sounds like you will fit in here just great. :)

Sorry for the loss of your grandpa. Hope that you will continue his legacy by pursuing the passion that you both shared.
All the best mate.
I have some great friends in the South Island, right next to the Rangitata River. Rata peaks was either the farmstead or area. Hunted Tahr with them up there.

Cheers,
Marius Goosen

Thanks for the warm welcome guys been reading through the threads all day inbetween sitting in the tractor or while in it.. Either or haha.
Marius, I'm going to make sure I follow in my grandpas footsteps. As a youngster my dream was to work as a PH in zim, unfortunately that chance slipped by but I still have that flame for Africa, the deep rooted feeling of being a true human and pitting wits against some of natures most fascinating creatures, hunting them or veiwing them, I'm sure most on here know the feeling.
I know the area, rata station is as you said the old sheep station that homes some awesome wildlife, some great red and fallow trophies down there. Glad you have experienced a thar hunt. They are a great animal to hunt, if for no other reason that the scenery is fantastic, Mt cook is another great but dangerous place to hunt thar. Hope you get back for a hunt there, and try your hand at some central north island sika, a truly willy opponent.
Thanks
Rhys

Welcome to the forum @Goon

Cherish the good memories you shared with your late grand father. Sorry to hear about his end, however no reason not to let his spirit live in you for all your years.

Looking forward to your participation on the group.
