New handloads for my 375 H&H

I’ll just stick with my one and only load for my 375. 70.0 grains of RL15, Federal 215, any of the 300 grain bullets I shoot in it (TSX, Bearclaw, A Frame, Cutting Edge solids). TSX gives me 2,550 and that’s plenty to kill anything. We often get exits on buffalo. Don’t need more speed, lighter or heavier bullets. That load just works great and no need to tinker with it.

Like yourself I pick one or two good loads for what I hunt and stick with it.

Sure,

CFE223, Hornady Brass, 3.6 LOA, Fed 215M primers. No pressure signs at all. This is out of my custom Eddy-Stone M1917, 24 in barrel. I'll push both bullet weights a bit and see where pressure signs show up, then do 3 shot groups lower to home in on a load the rifle likes. These were very tight groups even with the varying charge and velocity. That said, 10-15 rds off the bench with the 416 is a good day and I'm ready to retire!

Any plans on trying it with the 300 gr tsx ?? or recommendation on a starting point? tx

If you mean on the 416 rem, I haven't thought about that light of a bullet in that caliber. If I were, I’d start at the top load of the 350, or about 82 and go up a gr at a time to 85-86 grains

A 300 grain TSX could fly around 2800 or so with such a load. Not a bad load for plains. I like a TTSX better than the TSX for plains game. My safari experience is really low at 1, but I believe the TTSX (250 375 at 2850 MV) seemed to have had better "knock down" than the TSX 300 at 2600 ish on plains game. Nothing ran more than 25 yards mind you, just the 250 seemed to have popped a bit harder. Might expect something similar with the 300 Gr TSX in .416, but just speculating.

Keep in mind a 300gr bullet in the .375HH is still a 200 yard rifle. I say this as there is something to be said for keeping things simple. Having only one load in the box and also in your ammo belt and eventually your rifle is keeping things simple. It avoids possibly using that lighter bullet when you go up against the buffalo.

Phoenix Phil and I have chatted. He’s a really smart guy and much more experienced than I for sure. I did find having 2 loads an issue and found it was beneficial, but simple is a good plan as well for sure

Went to the range yesterday with my 375, I set the 260 Accubond at 100 yards, the 350 Woodieghs hit 2 inch low -- kind of as expected. I am running the new Sig scope with the digital hold over via the range finding Binos. was able to ring some steel easily at 300. my old style chronograph was giving me issues so I don't trust the FPS reading.

If you’re in the market for a new chrono, I can highly recommend the Garmin Xero. Easy to set up and use. I just had mine out to the range earlier today along with my .404 Jeff. It took velocity readings on a batch of Barnes 400grn solids handloaded over Varget.

Yeah, I keep hearing that for Buff most PHs advise the first round should be a SP, with solids next for the follow-up shot(s).

Got me some CFE 223 and loaded some experimental 416s --- damn that stuff is so fine it hard to get the powder thrower set exactly where ya want it .

Get a different powder thrower.
Both my Lee and Hornady measures throw it beautifully.
