Looks like the 303 as well as the 7.62X39 would be in range pressure wise, and the 303 a better choice overall? Why only .44 Magnum instead of .444 Marlin or otherwise more powerful cartridges? Perhaps it is only marketing of a double rifle in a popular cartridge? Or perhaps it is due to the strength of the action and various cartridges' Bolt Thrust.

Here as simple as it gets explantion of bolt thrust.
Bolt thrust - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
I do not know if the Pedersoli action is strong enough to safely market (sell) in more powerful cartridges, i.e. those that produce higher levels of bolt thrust. If the action is indeed strong enough for more powerful cartridges, then perhaps after teh market is saturated with these rifles in .44 Magnum, Pedersoli might offer something more powerful, perhaps.
Nevertheless, a .44 Magnum double rifle would be a fun little rifle to shoot and hunt whitetails within reasonable ranges.
Fbolt is bolt thrust.
The table below lists bolt thrust produced of various cartridges.
The .44 Magnum produces 29,069 Fbolt, while the .303 British produces 35,352.
The excerpt didn't provide the Fbolt for a .444 Marlin but.
Simple math reveals the Fbolt of a .444 Marlin would be 44,794.
- 444 Marlin produces 51,500 max chamber pressure in psi
- 44 Magnum produces 40,600 psi

Now, you and Journey are making two tactical errors: 1. save a slush fund the missus doesn't know about, 2. asking forgiveness is easier than asking permission!I hear ya... I've had to do that a few times myself!

PS--you could try organizing the gun safe to hide purchases for as long as possible, then refer to #2
Yes. I’ve found #1 works the best with no drama. But #2 will work as a backup and NEVER EVER ask permission first or you’ll be subject to the game of “20 questions” and it may not end well. The 405 double sold really quick it was awesome oak case from 1910 and rifle built the same time .I offered him asking price 3600 he didnt get back to me then was sold in two days .No offense but that's what the old folks used to call "where two fools met--him for offering too cheap and you for refusing."
A DR in .405 Win would be my vote. Such a cool straight wall cartridge. I had a Ruger #1 Tropical in .405. It helped finance my first DR.There is a new double rifle coming out this year but not usual dgr caliber its a 44 mag .Pedersloi is making a cool little double barrel 44 mag with a rail for a rail on it .It has double triggers .I wish one in 405 win would come out or 375 winchester .It will be cool hope its not priced too high no telling these days .
Here you go. No ties to this or the seller, just happened to see it.A DR in .405 Win would be my vote. Such a cool straight wall cartridge. I had a Ruger #1 Tropical in .405. It helped finance my first DR.

Haven't done it..... but loading these hammer bullets is on my list.Anybody ever bring the 405 into the 21st century by upgrading with premium bullets?

That one might have a bit of kick to it if the spec of 6lb 11oz is correct. That's pretty light for a 405Win.Yes the 405 win is a classic double round just hardly anyone knows it .It has alot of knockdown power with 400 grain bullets .Its not so much recoil either .
I saw Buffalo Bore load 350 CEB mono solid in .405 WinAnybody ever bring the 405 into the 21st century by upgrading with premium bullets?
You can shoot 41 mag bullets out of 405 win 2800 fps with 210 gr hornady xtp .I used the fmj ones hornady use to make in my 405 .My 1895 with a slip on limbsaver does not kick to me its super fun to shoot .I want starline to make 405 brass hornday brass sucks totally in new brass buckles its too soft .I do want to try 400 gr bullets in my 405 win they should be awesome .If Osa Johnson 5 foot 110 pounds can shoot 405 win anyone can too .My No. 1 was really easy on the shoulder. It was around 8lbs. with the heavy Tropical barrel on it. It handled and pointed instinctively. I used Hornady DGX 300 gr. which were the only factory loads available at the time. Dillon did not even have a caliber conversion for it.
