I was wondering if anyone had a starting load for the 470 Capstick using a Swift 500 grain A-frame and H4895 powder? I was thinking 77 grains to start with but not sure. Hoping to eventually get to my desired velocity of 2300fps. Any help would be appreciated.

I do have a .470 Capstick also. If you want, I can calculate a load on Quickload when I am back home.

Thanks, that would be great!

I was looking for a 470 Capstick a few months ago but came across a 475 Turnbull so got it instead, so I don't have any load data to help- sorry.

I have Art's book with his reloads, I'll take a picture of the 470 data, when I get to the book.

The .470 Capstick is a wildcat with no official Hodgdon data, so everything's from handloaders and QuickLOAD guesses start low and work up carefully, watching for pressure signs flat primers, sticky bolt, etc.

Real world reports with H4895 and 500gr bullets Barnes, Woodleigh, etc.

One guy ran 72gr for 2260-2290 fps in a 24" barrel solid, accurate load.
Others pushed 85 -90gr for 2300-2400 fps, but that's hot compressed, high pressure.

Your 77gr starting idea is reasonable per some QL estimates hits 2100-2200 fps safe, but I'd drop to 70-72gr to play safe with the Swift A-Frame bonded, expands well

2300 FPS is doable cartridge goal, but expect 80-85gr max depending on brass/barrel test in 1gr increments.

No specific Swift A-Frame data, but it should behave like Barnes TSX. Use magnum primers, good brass Bertram Peterson. That velocity with A-Frame will wreck anything good luck!

Id wager that 458 Lott data would work. There isnt a huge difference between the cartridges. The Capstick has slightly more case capacity and the 474" bullet has less surface area, so 458 lott loads will generate slightly less pressure.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

X5i scope is perfect - thanks for an easy transaction! Buy with confidence.
Made it to Augusta Georgia yesterday for a meeting, hunt bookings are looking good for 2026 and 2027, had a great time on our Alabama safari shot a rutting deer at 200 yards with 7mm PRC near Huntsville and then headed on to Butler Alabama and semi guided my first deer ever shot a very nice broken off 8 point with hunter there and spend a few days on 1100 acres hunting preserve awesome place!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
