Recommendations for country, as well as potentially outfitter for a stalking longbow hunt for plains game? In initial fact finding phase for myself (a rifle hunter) and a friend who hunts traditional long bow. He's not very keen on sitting over water and would prefer a stalking hunt. He understands his limitations, including those on his odds. General plains game would be the target, without overt specialization.

    Thanks in advance.

We enjoyed our time with AfrIHunt Safaris near Waterberg Park (Otavi). Justus Brits is a great guy and runs a first class operation. They got enough rain during the drought to maintain their range and animals. You have access to an enormous amount of property -1mm acres.

Some of the creeks and rivers Chris Troskie hunts would be perfect for stalking with the longbow, especially for bushbuck and warthog, but also kudu, waterbuck and zebra. He’s near Lephalale in South Africa.

Although I haven’t hunted with a longbow in Africa, as an ex-longbowman I still see things through the eyes of a traditional bowhunter.

A mate of mine who is still a hardcore traditional bowhunter has hunted several times with Ekuja in Namibia, but the stalking is difficult.

Although RSA has a larger number of species. Given the target species indicated, the Country does not really matter.

The property matters more than anything and next comes the PH.

A property hunted hard by rifle hunters will make it nearly impossible for a bow stalker.
Some species are much better suited to bow stalking. Make the right choices and your chances for success increase markedly.

As Ben said, creeks and rivers and thick bush no matter which province are the best locations.

Plenty of Outfitters have bow set ups, as you noted blinds, lucerne and water are common.
    Stalking properties, not so much.

Make the right choice of species and the property and he should have a great time.

    Good day sir,

We would also be able to help you with the safari. We have areas where you can do rifle and bow hunting in a area that has not been over hunted and where the brush is of such kind that he will be able to get in a shot with the long bow. If your friend is open to taken any animal that produces a opportunity he will be successful. It does get much harder when he only wants to take specific species and has a quite a long list. If stalking does not go his way in the morning he can always sit over water in the afternoon and then go back to stalking later in the afternoon. Our areas are all large so you guys will not interfere with each other while hunting.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have. I will put together a proposal for you guys!

    Enjoy the planning!

    All my best,

    Jacques

    Good Day Brandon.

We have a brand new property that has not been hunted for a while and is also big enough to accommodate both a rifle hunter and bow hunter ( stalking ).

We have a wide range of species on the property with varied terrein.

You are welcome to contact me and I am sure we can work something out for you.

    Regards

    Rouan
