as a lot of you have seen I did pick up the cancellation leopard offer that lwyk at leopard legend hunting safaris offered here not long ago...

    untitled_zpsaqnrpqpq.png

I didn't have any expectations when coming into Namibia for the first time. I had heard a lot of great things about it. I got in touch with a few people on here that have hunted with lwyk and had nothing but positive things to say. now everyone knows, or should know that hunting is never guaranteed, especially when hunting leopard! I have heard of people spending countless days after a leopard to only go home without one. im glad I brought my lucky flannel shirt!

when I got my plane ticket, I had only gotten a one way because having just returned from Russia, it was short notice and I needed to get back to work as soon as possible... but I did let my job know that I would return around the 15th of august! they were ok with that...in the end, im glad I made that decision as it was what allowed me to take the awesome cat that I did..

first off, id like to mention that if you plan on hunting with lwyk.. you better bring pants that are two sizes bigger or stretchy...because you'll definitely eat!! and you'll eat well! lwyk better hold on to that lady because she can cook!!

I spent the first few days actually checking out the sites in Namibia. I rented a car and drove from Windhoek to Swakopmund. then through Henties Bay, part of skeleton coast, Walvis Bay and Cape Cross to see the massive stinking seal colony as well as some of the huge sand dunes and overnighting in the cape cross lodge!! it was a great time! and i saw some great views and scenery along the way!

Monday came fast and lwyk pick me up from the guest house I stayed at in Windhoek.
the very first day we got after it... checking baits and cameras... but we needed fresh bait and Hartman zebra was on the list!! boom, power stalked some zebra and I took a nice mare for bait and an excellent trophy!

there are a ton of kopjes in that area we hunted.. and rock hyrax loved them! and I loved a hyrax! so we stopped by a kopje one day that we saw hyrax running back to. so I got out the 22, walked up a bit, knelt down and shot one! I was super stoked on it! haha. im not sure what lwyk thought when I told him I wanted to mount it! haha but I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

we saw a lot of wildlife.. genets, bat ear fox, aardwolf, aardvark, African wild cat and much more!! even elephants! I had never seen elephant in a wild environment before and it sure was something!

lwyk works hard to ensure a great effort is put forth for you!!
I'm glad I booked a one way flight going there. I was able to stay that extra day needed to get this cat! I still can't believe how fast everything comes together when hunting these cats. we had spent many days checking baits only to find female leopards, hyena and badgers on them. "nothing " and "next" had become common at baits. But each morning we went out I said "today is the day!" we hunted between bait spots and i was able to take some amazing trophies as well! when I first saw the cat through my scope, my heart pounded like crazy! we had heard him growl and fight off a hyena from the bait. I needed to calm myself down, so controlling my breathing, I got behind the rifle again... he was barely quartering so behind his shoulder is where I placed the green dot of the scope and squeezed until the shot rang. But not my ears because the rifle was suppressed! ha I felt confident in my shot at only 70 yards. we heard the cat crash not far followed by a very hair raising growl! we sat and waited as i tried to play back what happened.. making sure my eyes and mind were on the same page.. "did I hit where I thought I hit... what really happened... did I make the shot or did i miss??" those thoughts fill your head and you start questioning yourself. following up a leopard that you're semi questioning is even alive is a funny place to be... But as we catch blood and follow tracks, we shine up and see a spotted cat on the ground not fifty yards from where I was looking at him through the scope as he stood. he had expired! you wont believe what relief I felt had been lifted from me! soon after congratulations and hand shakes were had as well as the utmost respect and admiration for an animal can be had. weeks of hard work had paid off..(with help of course from my lucky flannel) and the reward was well above what I could have ever expected!
the leopard was 165 lbs with a 16.75" skull.

in all.. I couldn't have asked for a better experience in an amazing place with an outfit that will do everything they can to make sure you are having the best time of your life! I learned a lot with lwyk and had lots of fun too!! we sat out a couple times for spotted hyena... but they didn't want to play. I know for sure ill be back again to hunt with him!

lwyk also has a lot of pictures on his camera!! hopefully he will also post some pictures here! ive loaded what I had on my phone!
    hope you enjoy!

Hard to believe there's leopards in that desolate country. What an awesome trip! I am so jealous of that beautiful animal!
Kudos to the PH! And for you!

It has always been my dream to add on a Leopard to my Dassie hunt.
Wished I'd known you were out hunting Dassie's I'd have ordered a few. Very nice trophy.

Oh yeah, that cranker of a DikDik is not too bad either.

Congratulations. Opportunity and fortune came together for you in Namibia.
