IMG_0244.JPG IMG_0755.JPG IMG_0771.JPG IMG_0774.JPG Finally got started on the trophy room, bar, butcher shop, canning kitchen, tornado shelter, building project...So far, I've invested in 36 yards of concrete, some labor, and a home sawmill. The recent storm Irma and a few severe storms earlier this spring provided lots of trees...18 months to 2 years from now this should be a neat place to swap a hunting or fishing story or two.

I didn't forget- just became too much to list in that first post. The handloading, arrow-building, gun cleaning, and fly-tying will each be tucked away upstairs as they tend to all come with a bit of clutter.

I have done several scale drawings of this building over the last three years- and none of them are accurate to the final building! When my wife and I got the string lines on the ground we decided that we should go larger than planned so extended the trophy room by 4 feet in length and the entire building by 2 in width which caused a change in roof pitch, the need for a home built glu-lam ridge beam, and will push the very limits of my creativity on my little sawmill.

I'm a law enforcement officer by trade- an administrative type now- with a mostly desk/car job. I grew up farming and working on cattle and horse ranches. I did construction a couple summers in high school but my skills aren't great. I do have a very handy network of friends and family who work in almost all of the trades and are willing to provide technical advice or assistance.

I bought the mill over two years ago just for this project and have become pretty handy with it. The next order of business is to begin milling and installing the 8x8 hardwood posts that will support the walls and roof structure...

I hope some of y'all enjoy following along but mainly I really wish for advice or suggestions from those with more knowledge and experience than I have as this project begins to take some shape! (In October- my daughter and I are leaving tomorrow for our Maine black bear adventure.)

Good choice. no one has ever in the history of mankind ever said, "I built my trophy room TOO BIG..." P.M. me if you want pictures or remote advice on how I built mine.

This has the makings of a lo----ng thread. Enjoy tour project and keep us posted. Be sure to allow for shrinkage of all that timber you are using. If you don't, you'll regret it.

Very cool. My uncle and you would get along - he has a old saw mill that he used to build ~80% of the house he lives in now. He did hire out a few things like electrical etc

I thought it looked really large to start with, then...you mentioned a second story! Wow it's sounding HUGE now! I'm interested in watching the whole process.
    I'm jealous as can be!
