My Selous trophies arrive to BC and cost breakdown of this endeavour :)

I was as happy as a box of fluffy ducks when the crates arrived from the Selous to Northern BC. Less than a year from the Safari in Tanz and no problems whatsoever in its travels.
I couldn’t imagine just taking pictures and not having my buff skulls with me to admire until the end of my time. I thought about it as well and thankfully I decided to bring them home. What a euphoric feeling I received while opening and touching the trophies again, amazing. Highly recommended!
My cost breakdown is as follows and I should mention that I used Dale Warren of Talon Distribution in Edmonton as my agent. He was absolutely brilliant.

Total freight from Tanzania (89kg) $2225
Airport handling fee $365
Customs export and Agent fee $350
Total $2940 US

Customs Canada GST $516.59
Customs Canada clearance $350
CFIA inspection fee $49.50
Terminal charges at airport $135
NAV Can fees $12
Storage charges (6 days) $240
Pick up from airport in Edmonton $85
Talon document handling fees $195
Terminal cross dock $57.50
Courier fees $50
Transportation from Edmonton to Smithers BC $159.50
More GST $27.97
Visa payment charge (3%) $59.36

Grand total with currency conversions to the next to worthless Canadian dollar is $6014.56 (about $4300 US).

This included to 2 buffalo skulls, hippo skull, warthog skull, impala skull, one hippo foot and a buffalo scrotum. All just dipped and packed.

your initial costs may seem high and a little indulgent right now. However if you spread that out over the many years of enjoyment for you and your family and friends it's peanuts. The hippo skull alone is a show stopper-especially if displayed on the floor in front of a fireplace. Add in a few very solid buff and you have a powerful aesthetic which sets the tone and mood for any room. in my opinion you made a great investment which will pay dividends far in excess of the initial outlay-cheers

The hippo foot is a very neat touch!

I remember the first time I saw their tracks coming out of a pan miles from the river. It seemed so foreign, almost dinosaur'esqe.

hmmnn.......that's a nice kudu skin . how do you usually display it? wall , floor? I ask because I have a flat tanned skin and am looking at best way to enjoy it. cheers

Great photos, great buffaloes.
Shipping the trophies back is as expensive as a plains game hunt for 7 days round in South Africa or Namibia and 4-5 animals.
For my buffalo (everything was done well and solidly) until it arrived at my place looking just like in the photo:
Starting at almost € 3,000.- from the taxidermist to Munich.
That makes you think twice—especially since it’s not my first one—about whether you really need the trophy.
Hmm

But next year the costs are forgotten
and Im telling my wife only the half price.

Those are exactly the types of trophies I would have a hard time leaving behind. Up against the typical cost of hunting them, that doesn’t seem too awful. Definitely not cheap, but I would think worth doing.

Congratulations on your trophies, and getting them home! I've got a crate sitting in SA waiting to be cleared for shipment, and will do a write up once it arrives. This kind of post is helpful in peeling back the curtain for the newer African hunters, and one I would very much have appreciated when I first started my journey.
