Just won a gunbroker auction on a merkel 140ae 375h&h! Not the caliber I thought id start into the double world with, but it is about the perfect caliber for everything here in alaska!

I've wanted a double since I was a little kid watching hunting shows every morning with my grandpa!

Anyone have any input on this brand/model/caliber? Other than it being blasphemy to put a belted mag in a double haha

Can’t go wrong with the mighty 375 H&H magnum .

It might not scratch the itch of a big bore quite yet. But this could be the most useful double rifle that exists (provided it regulates well). I can't tell if there are any claw or pivot mounts on the top of the rifle, if there are and you can easily attach a scope, you'll have a classical looking double rifle, in the most common chambering you can find for Africa, that should shoot lights out till 300m. Without the optics, you'll likely need to limit yourself just to a bit more closer in.

Congratulations!
I personally do not see any thing wrong a 375 H&H in a double rifle.
The 375 H&H is great cartridge for a lot of animals, including Buffalo, Giraffe, etc.

Heartiest congratulations ! Your Model 140AE is most likely regulated for Hornady ammunition.

This is just the sort of tool I’d want for on-foot stalks for lion or for leopard over hounds.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
Two African Safaris Hunted South Africa both times,
9 game animals taken
Has anybody hunted with Phumba safari in steenbokpan south Africa?
