My Covid vaccination experience

Since we almost certainly aren't going to get to travel internationally without one, I am looking forward to finally getting mine. I suspect a last minute two shot inoculation with three to four weeks between doses might be difficult to arrange. After three decades professionally banging around much of the third world, I have a three page inoculation record including things like Bubonic plague and rabies (the dogs and I feel as one). Can't be much worse than yellow fever or pneumonia vaccines. I am unfamiliar with the "Pentagon" study. Bring on the next one.
I understand where you are coming from. We are on the same page as far as - nothing is going to stop us from traveling the world!

I haven’t gotten the vaccine yet. But I did get covid in December and if sucked. I’m back to 100%. A business friend of mine just died from covid yesterday. I will get the vaccine when available.

I remain hopeful my July family Safari will happen. Life without an adventure to plan for is dull.

Sorry about your friend. I lost one of my best friends to COVID two weeks ago. We get the first dose of the Pfizer this week. We really need to get back home to Canada to see the in-laws as soon as the borders open. I’m hoping by that time, the vaccine reduces our quarantine requirement.

I got my first Covid vaccination on Jan. 15. (I'm 71) Moderna vaccine administered by Dallas Parkland hospital at a drive through location. No issues and I was in and out in about 30 minutes. My second vaccination was on Wednesday Feb. 10. Much longer lines at the drive through location and the wait was about an hour and a half.
Some soreness in my shoulder where she injected the Moderna. I went home, took some Tylenol on the recommendation of a couple of medical professionals. Got up Thursday and went to the office for a couple of hours but by noon I was starting to ache all over. Went home and felt really lousy and had a slight fever. Took Tylenol every 5 hours or so and by 9pm Thursday night I started to feel better. Today I'm back to 100%.
Just a word to the wise, the second injection of vaccine is much more likely to have some side effects, but everyone's experience is a little different and the side effects seem to pass within 24 to 48 hours.
Glad you were able to get the shots. So far I’m signed up in multiple locations waiting on the call.

Thank you. It seems inevitable that many of us will know someone who has or will pass from covid. As a healthy adult it was the worst sickness I’ve had to date. I’ve only missed 2 days of work due to sickness in nearly 20 years, so this one was a whopper.

Haven’t got it yet but am signed up. I took the pneumonia and shingles vaccine at the same time, bad idea, would not recommend it, so the COVID vaccine can’t be half bad and definitely better than the virus. I personally know 4 people that have died from either the virus or complications since November. So yes I will definitely get it as soon as I can. Also heard that CDC is about to drop the quarantine requirements if you are vaccinated.

Why would they drop the requirements if everything I've heard is true and you can still contract and spread covid even if you've been vaccinated? Maybe I'm not understanding something?

I also wonder about that. Our state has eased the testing and quarantine requirements for those vaccinated yet they tell us we can still spread it. Makes 0 sense.

I also was vaccinated for bubonic plague in prep for SE Asia in the early '70s. No other vaccination, including the first covid shot, has made me as sick as I was with that one.

With the prioritization of available vaccine doses where I live, I probably won't be able to be vaccinated until spring/Summer. I will register for vaccination once my demographic grouping registration becomes available.

Got my 1st Moderna vaccine shot Thursday. Arm a little sore but no big deal, my low back started getting sore and is still killing me!! Worse today!! I haven’t felt bad anywhere else just my back. I don’t know if it vaccine related or not.

I got my first Moderna shot. Just had a little sore arm. The second is due the 26 of February. My niece a pharmacist says to hydrate good the day before second vaccine and you will have less side effects. She had a few aches and a low fever. She said she had worse hangovers.

I just got the call from a clinic that had a cancellation. I let them know I could fill a cancellation on short notice. I’m going in for the Maderna vaccine at 9:30am. Very happy to get this started and finished before heading to Alaska in May and Botswana in June!

Register ahead and if you have any connections to any clinics or healthcare professionals, let them know if you’re available on short notice.

@chashardy
We are going to roll out the vaccines in Australia in a few weeks. We are well behind the rest of the world but have the great fortune to only have 17 cases in the community country wide.
I will be having the injection when it's my turn and thanks for the heads up on the possible side effects.
They are better than the alternative of being dead.

Vaccines are bad especially ones that have been rushed to market. These kind of vaccines (flu,Covid, etc) give your immune system a “head fake” so when an attack by another virus comes along you are more likely to get sick. A Pentagon study proved this.
Nothing will keep me from Africa so if a vaccine is required then I will consult with my dr and decide what to do at that time.
At this time it is bad advice for average folks to get vaccinated for travel. First of all the vaccine is not accepted for travel. Second Covid 19, statistically speaking, is no worse than the flu. (Please don’t start a debate here just read for yourself), and thirdly the cleanest indoor air that you can breath is on a modern airplane. That is right, contrary to popular belief, the HEPA filter cleans all of the air every 2 minutes!

I'm glad someone has expressed an alternative as we are entitled to free speech and reasoning but for me personally I would rather face the risks involved in vaccination that death but that is my personal opinion and I value your input and thoughts Phillip. It leads to healthy discussion on the subject.

Two of my hunting buddies both got covid earlier in the fall. One older than me and one younger. Both are still without taste or smell. Good diet plan I suppose. Hope those senses recover for them eventually

I was given the opportunity to take the first shot at work today. I declined mostly because they informed me that although it is expected to get sick for a short time with the second shot it would likely be far worse if the first shot is taken less than 90 days since you actually had covid.
I have roughly 5 more weeks before I pass that mark.

I don't know anybody that died directly from C19 or from complications from C19. Not one. I know several people that got C19 and all survived after a few days of flu like symptoms. I suspect I might have had it last February but that's just a guess. Same with my wife. FWIW, me, my wife and most of my friends are over 60. Even the ones that aren't are mostly 50+. None of us wear masks unless we absolutely have to (government buildings), we all meet regularly to share meals/coffee and we're all going about our lives as if nothing is going on.

I've read the statistics about C19 and concluded it's mostly nonsense. C19 is real and if you're over 70 with several other health issues you're probably a statistic waiting to happen. However, all the other health issues you have are what ultimately kills you. C19 is just a contributing factor. Very few people of any demographic die solely because of C19.

I won't be getting the vaccination for three reasons:

1. I don't think it's necessary. I'm in good health and under 70. That puts my survival rate somewhere around +99%.

2. Never fly the A model of anything. I think I'll sit this one out until more info is available about the efficacy and safety of these rushed to market vaccines.

3. Getting the vaccine changes nothing because I'll still have to comply with nonsensical government mandates. Masks, social distancing, occupancy rates, artificial quarantines, etc aren't going away. The socialists have won.

Get the vaccine if you want. I'll pass.
