This saw will be used almost exclusively for my knifemaking Art so the out of square problem for tall stock should not be a problem as the majority of my blade stock is under a 1/4 inch . The guys on the knife forums all use 14 tpi and this is what is available for replacement blades

This one is ready to go as well. Another Buffalo skinner with the curve backed buff bolster and black walnut but this time I used the carbon fiber pins in the walnut so they sort of disapear into the background. I did try one a while back with the carbon fiber pins in the buffalo horn as well but it didn't look right so will have to look at what else is available to try and tone the contrast down.
Hard to get a good pic of this one. IMG_20190327_130807.jpg IMG_20190327_104047.jpg

I really like the brass contrast the pins create in the Horn Garry. Put a third one in there and get your trinity! Wonderful looking knife. If you Build one with the the 3rd pin like that send me a PM and I will buy the first one.

    Cheers,
    Cody

Cut the first two blades out today on the bandsaw and while it is slower than the cut off disc in the grinder, it is just so much cleaner and with zero dust and grit to make wearing breathing gear necessary so I am a convert.

    Hi VG,

This mini skinner is a great knife design! The balde shape is perfect for my taste and uses as a general hunting knife. What is the blade lenght?
    Thank you

The Classic mini skinner has a 3 1/4 inch blade of 1/8 1084 and is suitable for all small game from goats to deer and makes for a compact carry knife that is still able to perform the big tasks of field dressing and skinning you game animals.

These two have very nice walnut with the buff skinner being special order with my makers mark in 3 brass pins in the buffalo horn bolster and the general purpose knife having special selection NZ Walnut. I find the general purpose knife about perfect for when I am breaking down an animal. before the boning and steaking knife come into play. buffalo skinner 3 pin bolster.jpg

A couple of weeks back I was asked to do a pair of my buffalo skinners and when we were going over the details he asked if I could make them shorter but that would have unbalanced the visual and the actual so I redesigned with a similar style to fall within his criteria and called it the old western skinner and about the same time my US agent was asked if I would make the J T Ranger with a shorter blade but the same thing applied so I designed up a smaller version and called it the pocket ranger. I cut out a few blades today and added a pair from the ready drawer for this weeks orders although I am waiting on some blaze orange and tan liners for some of them so it may be a coupe of weeks till it arrives.

From the top there is a safari knife, a light hunter, a mini skinner. 3 of the new old western skinners, 2 pocket rangers and a J T Ranger

The blades have had the preliminary grind, been heat treated, had the final grind and hand sanded, so all ready for the bolsters on the ones I can finish for now.
This is the difference between the J T Ranger and the Pocket Ranger on the left and on the right is the Old Western Skinner compared to the Buffalo Skinner. The two longer knives are in the 10 1/2 inch length bracket while the two smaller blades are in the 9 1/8 to 9 1/4 inch long and being a bit smaller may suit a different user group.

It was the new designs that prompted the work in progress posts Ray. Going to try some stabilised cherry burl on one this time may be with come copper or possibly fancy walnut bolsters. (It is the only one I have a choice in as the rest are orders)

I dont make damascus and havent looked at buying it in to use either it or rosewood so far. The rosewoods are not readily available here but then I havent sought it out with the other woods I have on hand
