My .500 Jeffery wish list build MEMBERS opinions are welcome

I personally would recommend a different cartridge but if it’s the Jeff you are after it will be one cool build!
My recommendation is ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE AMERICAN BLACK WALNUT!!!
It’s not strong enough, only use Bastogne Walnut, it is the most dense, strongest wood you can get and for a Jeff you’ll need it!
Good luck with the build, keep us informed! Looks like a fun project

When it comes to very high-quality wood for stocks, you have to choose turkish/circassian walnut.

Members, like I explained previously, I am working with what I have ..if by chance I find a Turkish Wall Nut blank I can afford I will duplicate the American Black Walnut stock on the Turkish Wall-nut blank....I can not imagine the American Black Wall-nut wood being inferior in use for the rife stock of a .500 Jeffery rifle ...This will be a WORKING RIFLE build on a Classic English design the South African way...build by a hunter for the hunter ...

Standard rifle building practice is to build a heavy recoil rifle :
Larger rifle stock dimensions
Full bedding the rifle stock
Two cross bolts
Extra recoil lug brazed onto the barrel bedded into the rifle stock.
I believe doing all these procedures you likely can even use pine wood and it will be strong enough to hold the 500 Jeffery stock together ... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I already have a 404 Jeffery, I am building a .458 African caliber rifle, as well as a 9.3X70 DWM caliber as well...I am not building a 505 Gibbs or a Rigby .450 ..it needs a magnum size action...I have Mauser MOD 98 actions to work with..

Made some progress today..completed the magnum magazine box bending jig on the surface grinder. I did receive the 1.2mm spring steel sheet material to bend the magazine box as well as the 0.5mm spring steel sheet material to form the magnum strength magazine spring that will be much wider than the standard Mauser action magazine spring..

I still need to work out at what temperature I need to harden/temper the spring steel spring ..at least the spring will be sturdy enough to carry three 500 Jeffery rounds. I spoke to anothe rhunter who had a 500 Jeffery build for him , the magazine can take 3x rounds in te magazine box ...but he only load two 500 Jeffery rounds in the magazine ..his reason being that the third 500 Jeffery round put too much stress on the magazine spring and causes feeding problems ..

This amount of 0.5 spring steel sheet material will make quite a few magnum magazine springs , as well as the 1.2mm magazine box sheet metal will turn out a few magazine boxes ..

To the members who follows this process please assist:

Here are photos of a Lyman type ghost ring aperture sight ..I am in need of information...

I know how to adjust the back/to front adjustment .

My question:
How do I adjust the height ? Is the knurled drum part the adjuster or only locking /release part??

Do I turn the ghost ring to screw it up and down...it really does not want to turn at all..I do not want to break or damage the screw thread or ghost ring aperture ...please assist..

My aim is to duplicate this Ghost ring aperture sight but as a dove tailed Mauser action cocking piece device ..so I can slide it from left to right and it can be adjusted up and down...a perfect concept for the 500 Jeffery rear sight set up ..

Turn the knurled part to raise the aperture.

Clockwisw whilw looking down from the top.
A drop of oil in th estem mat help loosen it - they do get gummed up.

Huvius, it really is very , very stuck..I do not want to break of the ghost ring aperture stem, I did apply penetrating oil...will give it a day or two..

If that doesn’t do it, soak it in Kroil like the top ‘smiffs in the States would do.
Jack , thank you, I will do so, at the moment I am fitting it to my .50 cal SxS muzzle loader to see if I can get better accuracy out to 50 meters than using the two original v-express sights that was on the rifle when I received it...

I am still going to mill out my Rigby type ghost ring aperture sight with a dove tail slotted into the Mauser action cocking piece ..zero it out to 70 meters .

Success , the penetrating oil worked just fine ..the ghost ring stem is adjusting beautifully. I completed the fitment of this Leyman rear tang sight onto the .50 Cal Pederzoli SxS muzzle loader rifle ..will see how it group tomorrow at 25m as well as 50 meters ..distance is sufficient to hunt warthogs in September .

I'm looking forward to your report!
I had a 12b Pedersoli SXS once and thought the double rear sight was a bit goofy.
I sold it, regrettably, and now the supply of the 12s has dried up considerably! I really regret not working with that gun more to see what was possible.

It is sad that you sold that great rifle... I am putting in a lot of effort and time into my Pedersoli SxS .50 cal.....I did spend time today on the .500 Jeffery magazine bending jig today...I will commence bending the first magnum ribbed magazine box .

I ordered a bull nose milling cutter to mill in the four ribs slots ..the bull nose milling cutter will have a 10mm diameter and I will mill these grooves at a 1x mm dept ..the indents will form the 4x ribs inside the magazine box..assisting the 500 Jeffery round`s movement up/down in the magazine box...not dragging against the inside of the magazine box....ensuring good cycling from the magazine well...

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.
