My .500 Jeffery wish list build MEMBERS opinions are welcome

The genuine model for the Mauser cocking piece is quite rare but most of the others are pretty common.
I do believe that the treaded staff on the taller ones can be shortened to make them a more correct height for the application.
The sleeve can likely be shortened as well.
Here in the US, going to one of the larger gun collector shows would almost certainly turn up something usable.

Huvius, thank you kindly for this information, it is much appreciated. I currently have this one available on the Pederzoli SxS double muzzle loader rifle ...still in the process to work on loads accurate up to 80 meters. I am using this rear sight to determine the height in relation to the front bead ...I will then substitute this sight with a custom build sight I will build to be permanently fitted to my Pederzoli .50 cal.

I am going to take apart this sight and duplicate it to build a replica with some of my own design features for a Mauser 98 rifle ...

You and Grand Verneur really did assist me in this regards by providing me with valuable information as well as photos.

Here is a Ghost ring dove tailed on my .375 H&H Magnum, I will be making a similar ghost ring body BUT will make a adjustable post with a large ghost ring aperture opening/hole of 6 mm diameter ...this will be adjusted to the different heights by two spring loaded ball bearing set screws ..

The new stem design will have M6x 0.75 thread pitch...as well as two flat sides to regulate by drilling a 1/2 ball bearing diameter dept to enable an arrest point at 25 meters , 75 meters distances ...

I received a photo from one of our members, Adam Stevens , of the original Rigby cocking piece dove tailed peep/ghost ring sight ...similar to what I am intending to mill from a solid piece of spring steel to enable me to hardened and temper it to straw color ...

Here is my own design , made a few years ago for my .375 H&H Magnum I build under the mentorship of Johan Greyling of JS Gunsmith ...

I will keep the sleeve design but will change the ghost ring post design...

I need to get an idea of how robust I need to make the front sight ...what different designs you members have on your .500 Jeffery rifles ..

I am going to make a Quarter rib with a spring tensioned single folding leaf regulated at 100 meters as well...it will be a functional sight at 100 meter V-express folding leaf for bushveld hunting as well...point blank distance to 70 meters using the ghost ring , Quarter rib single leaf spring loaded flip up blade out to 100 meters ..similar like this Quarter rib on my .375 H&H Magnum but only a single leaf ..spring tensioned flip up distance indicator

Yes, front sight is nicely done and robust...yes will build the same type of front sight with the flip up night sight white bead as well

Quarter rib : Since I am going to use the Ghost ring as Primary sights I will build a dove tailed single leaf spring tensioned flip up V-Express sight into the quarter rib ...

Made some changes already to this list...
Replacing the buffalo grip cap with a steel type grip cap..members mentioned the Buffalo grip cap tends to crack as time goes by...I am contemplating inserting a nice solid piece of Black ivory inside this skeleton grip cap and checker it as well...( friend of mine is doing the rifle stock checkering )

I am fortunate I manage to get a lot of Black Ivory/Zebra wood. I have now high quality Black Ivory wood, extremely dense an a few logs received from a member of my whatsapp group..

Made changes in regards to the V-Express sight leaves o the Quarter rib as well..members pointed out due to the recoil of a 500 Jeffery the three or more express leafs are going to flip up or down .....

I am only inserting one flip up leaf distance indicator 100m ...
This leaf will be under enough spring tension not to flip up under recoil..since I will be using the Ghost ring sight as the primary sights on my 500 Jeffery.

On quality rifles, the long express island has a flat spring - really just a strip of thin spring steel - that runs just below the leaves.
Each leaf has two flats at the hinge so that when flipped up, one flat is held by the spring keeping it up and the other flats (90deg from the other) holds the other leaves down in the same way.
It’s really more simple than I’m explaining it!

Yes, you are correct. I made use of a ball bearing and a spring inserted vertically under the swivel point of the flip up leaf spring Huvius..I can then choose what strength of spring I want to exert spring tension onto the flip up leaf ..

The Trijicon RMR Type 2 red dot sight as another sight option since the rear of the Mauser MOD 98 action is already drilled and tapped ( bought it like that)

Grand Veneur, it is a beautiful quarter rib design...just beautiful, designed perfectly and made perfectly...I am doing a quarter rib, but as mentioned a flip up spring tensioned leaf to be able to use my ghost ring as the primary sight ....I am looking forward to see how the Trijicon red dot sight will work on the 500 Jeffery as well...

Here are photos of my original Schuler Jumbo.
You can see what an artillery piece these rifles are considering that’s a half inch hole in the end!!
The hood release is the little button on the side of the ramp and the hood itself is THICK ! Not just a shade but for real protection .

This one, although not a 500 Jeff., is a 500 Ruger No.1 which, I believe had the original front sight split and opened up for the 500 barrel.
Pretty slick I think and gives a good amount of solder area for a strong join.
