After reading a little about hunting Mozambique I've become interested in a potential plains game bowhunt there. I've always heard of Mozambique as an elephant, buffalo, etc. destination but I know there are plains game available.

Anyone here every hunted Mozambique? How is the trophy quality and availability of plains game there (I'm particularly interested in kudu, nyala, bushbuck, bushpig, and maybe eland)?

Hi PA Guardian,

I personally do not have a lot of experience in bow hunting Mozambique. All I know is that there are just a few outfitters that have concessions that are jacked up for bow hunting. Before you book make sure you book with an outfitter that is actively bow hunting Mozambique to avoid disappointment.

Hi,

Yes im with Neil on this one. All i can add here is that there are many RSA outfitters that have hunting concessions in Mozam with some kind of camp set up there, but im not in the loop if there are any private owned Safaris there.. im sure there should be some.

regards,

owen

Through my initial searches I've found that there are a few outfits in Mozambique that appear to have at least some bowhunting experience. Also, I am certainly not opposed to rifle hunting there, I'd just prefer to bowhunt. My interest in Mozambique is driven by the fact that many consider it to be "old" Africa.

My concern is that Mozambique is not a good plains game location or conducive to a shorter safari (10 days) with ample opportunity for success.

I'll be attending the Eastern Outdoor Show next week and plan on talking with some of the outfits who offer Mozambique hunting, Motsomi Safaris in particular.

Contact Mark Young. He represents Mokore Safaris. They hold a the Coutada 9 concession in Moz and have experience with bowhunters. Barry Duckworth and his sons own and operate Mokore. Barry is something of a legend in Zim and there company is one of the older safari operators in Zim.

I am hunting sable there this year with rifle and chose Moz for the reasons you listed "old Africa".

The sable hunting is suppose to be very good there also.

Mark is a good guy, this will be my second hunt booked with him.

This was Mark's response in regards to bowhunting with Mokore

Mike,

Absolutely! In fact they are well organized for bow hunting from ele's to duikers and have quite a bit of experience. Stalking or blinds or a combo are offered.

To answer your question Mokore is set up for bow hunting and has done archery hunts in both areas. One of their clients a dedicated bow hunter for many years thinks that Coutada 9 is one of the best bow destinations in Africa.

Mark

Thank you Mike! That is some great information there and Mokore seems to be very impressive.

Good luck on your sable hunt.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
