Hi New guy from ontario, supposed to go to SA on the 11th ,but have had so much trouble with gun permits etc i might just chuck it and go somewhere else, there is so much disinformation.im so discouraged......because im stby ..airline staff when i go thru fra i have to clear customs ,just cant seem to get ahold of them to get a permit !!!!!! very frustrating
Major, Sorry to hear about your problems. Canada and Frankfurt aren't places I am familuar with. Hang around on this site a couple of days and people with experience can probably help give you some advise. What ever happens, don't chuck the hunt in. Call your PH in SA. Explain the situation to him. He will have a rifle or two to choose from that you can use. Then spend some time on this site, ask questions and be in great shape preperation wise for your next hunt.
Welcome to AH Major! give BRICKBURN a little time and he'll welcome you aboard and can give you the info you need he just went through that same thing I believe and he's one of the most helpful guys on the planet, stick around. And don't give up on Africa I put it off for years and finely mgive myself a hunt for my 55th Birthday I'll be 58 in June and be back for my third Safari I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not starting this years ago. Bob
are you doing an overnight in Frankfurt? if not you might not need anything there if you don't take possession of your firearm. The export permit for Canada only took me a week to get. Its a little late now, but I used rifle permits.com to deal with the import permit in SA.
You should also check with your PH/outfitter if you can rent a gun there, no need for permits then either.
Was teaching a Hunter Ed class all day and just got back on the machine and saw this. Sent you a PM. Let me know and I'll see how I can help you out. Where there is a will there is a way. http://www.africahunting.com/latest-hunting-news/10139-frankfurt-firearms-new-forms.html http://www.africahunting.com/before-after-hunt/9899-return.html
Very good point tox i did this on my first hunt and as you can see by my pics it worked out great, on the second hunt I took my own rifles at a cost of two hundred dollars 150 more then my first hunt because all I had to pay for was the bullets I used, needless to say I'm using Rusty's guns again this time. its no different then when my dad handed me his rifle as a young boy and let me take my first game it may have been his rifle but I took the game with it.
Welcome to AH major! Check out this link: Importation or Transiting Procedures Through Countries with Weapons & Ammunition
Hey Major, The gentlemen here have all given you sound advise. Don't be discouraged. Get a hold of your PH and see what he can do for you. Please report back here if you need any help and I am 100% confident that the members here will help you get through this. Whatever you do, don't cancel your trip. You will regret it for the rest of your life. All the best with your planning. Best Regards, Marius Goosen
Don't cancel your trip! It will be the first of many. Yes it will. It is that much fun. Rent a gun there and go have fun. Let us know how it was when you return
Do not cancel, as said previously talk to your PH/Outfitter and they will sort you out. i am sure you are going to have a great trip. Best regards
Thanks guys for all the support I finally found a flight on SAA fromJFK.I'll fly down from Toronto the night before.I have the forms 6 for my rifle,a little nervous about that in new york. But it's certainly legal, so hopefully no issues I actually got the permit from SA for my freedom arms revolver but no way I'm taking that thru new york!! The rifle should be no problem tho,if I could have gotten the flyer through Frankfort but that fell through, and all the airlines are suddenly full!!!!
Good luck on your trip. Glad you got something worked out. In the USA DO NOT take possession of your firearm. You are transiting the US. Not entering the US. Get anyone with the airline to move it for you.
Yes I can rent there wasn't sure about that but might go that route now that I have a flight...35 years with air Canada and flight soooo full stby wasn't an option, was lookin good till a week ago!!cheers and thanks
Oh that's good to know ....if I can get the air Canada people to pick up my rifle ill take it if not ill just rent one theremaybe they can store it overnight and take it to SAAcheck in for me
I'm not sure we pre clears customs in Toronto on the fly to ny and u cantransit the us in a car to hunt out west and u have possession inthat case, I don't want to push my luck though I'll see if the airlines can do anything at all for me thanks for the advice!
freedom arms Yes im gettin exited now ,and i will take my freedom arms revolver i have the africa permit and my form 6 ,so wont take possession in NY ill get the airk\line to handle store overnite etc...
