MEXICO: Desert Bighorn

Yessir, I am chipping away at the North American 29 while I can still get around.

Stay tuned!
That is great - what a fun goal, and you have made great progress! You are well ahead of me, I am shooting for the African 29 and NA 29. From seeing your reports I am confident you have secured your African 29, probably several times over! It is sure a lot easier to make progress with the African because of the ability to combine hunts. The NA sure has a lot of caribou moose - 10 of the 36 possible!

Congrats on your ram. Love the mass and the fact that he carries it out so far. Great shooting. The right equipment makes it feasible to ethically take that kind of shot. Might not of taken that shot 10 yrs ago. He is a beautiful ram. From the sounds of his teeth he was the perfect one to take. Thanks for sharing.

Well said @superdutch. The NA 29 no doubt poses unique challenges with such varying terrain and habitat that the quarry inhabit. Of course, throw in the fact the the weather during most North American hunting seasons is highly unpredictable. Good luck on the African 29, a worthy goal as well.

Thanks Bruce, you are spot on about taking that shot 10 years ago - I would not have done it. But I shot 18 rounds three days before the hunt from 400-500+ yards with consistency so there was no hesitation on my part. As for the age of the ram, we initially counted 10 growth rings but on closer inspection the ram was aged at 13 years. I am honored to have collected such a fine trophy.

Wow! Congrats on a great looking ram!

Congrats on a great ram

Thanks for sharing and congrats on a super ram!

JES: Loved that report, and the photos. If I read this right, and you were back all in by 6PM, means you killed that ram sometime mid day on the first day! One of the most productive half day hunts I have ever read about. But really, a tribute to your planning, preparation, and great shooting. I salute you and your team of helpers. What a ram! I hope to live long enough to read about all 29! Keep after them and be sure to report................FWB

Thank you FWB, I am happy you enjoyed the report. As much as I like to hunt, I was pleased this was a short one. I’ve had several NA hunts go sideways due to weather and I ended up getting skunked. I spoke to one hunter at the airport that took 6 days to get his ram.

Corona caused my Grizzly hunt to cancel, was supposed to leave today. Hopefully, this crap will flesh out in the next couple of months so I can keep chipping away at them this Fall.

Looking for shipping advice. I will be hunting in Limpopo in March, and was wanting to know a general idea of shipping costs to return my mounts to the US when completed. Air or sea? Only plains game hunting.

Good morning 7MAG. I have a NEW, never mounted, Leupold M8-4X Extended Eye Relief scope that I will sell you for $325 shipped to you. I was a Leupold rep for 12 years and this was always our preferred mounting for a lever gun, scout rifle style.

You’ve got an interesting screen name. Will the Thrill provided lots of great times for me as a lifelong Giants fan. Even though I never met him, a number of buddies either duck hunted or shared a dugout with him. He’s a great guy according to those guys. Cool screen name and if that’s your real name, it’s a great one.
