I’ve used bidair in the past making trip through customs and such a breeze. My understanding is the bidair is not operating right now due to airport covid restrictions. I found another company that says they are, but I’m a little sceptical. If bidair is not allowed, I’m not sure how others get around that.
Just wondering if anybody knows of a meet and greet service that is working in J’burg that they could recommend.

Hi @everett,
Let us know if you need any assistance with your Meet & Assist or rifle import permits, email henry@riflepermits.com.
Kind regards,
Henry

Meet & Assist

Meet and assist service at the airport - if you are unable to process your application and send it to us within the prescribed time period, we will meet you at the airport and assist you in applying for your permit at the airport. We can also meet you from your return flight to ensure that your transit through the airport is trouble-free. Please contact us regarding the cost of this service.

Storage Facilities

We also offer rifle storage facilities at a safe and secure location until you are ready to collect your rifle or if you need a safe storage location while you are enjoying your stay in South Africa. Contact us for further information.

VIP Assistance

Arrange VIP assistance for clients after they disembark the aircraft to assist with immigration, customs, and collect baggage, we will then be waiting for the client in the general meeting area with his/her pre-approved firearm permit and escort the client to the SA Police Permit Office to clear and collect the firearms.

Transport Services

We offer transport services to and from O.R. Tambo International Airport within the Gauteng Area. We will collect you from the airport and take you to a hotel or accommodation. We will also pick you up again on the day of your departure and take you to the international departure terminal at the airport.

Riflepermits offers great service.

I used riflepermits.com for a plane-side meet and greet and pre-approved import permit on my recent (24 April to 7 May 2021) trip to SA and they were great.

I was the only hunter (only one with a rifle case, anyway) on my flight from Doha, and if it weren't for Marius and Adel's assistance from riflepermits.com I might still be standing in the SAPS office waiting for them to get my rifle case and check in my rifles. There were 5 uniformed folks in the SAPS office at the time, but they were far too busy on their phones to check in my rifles. A sixth officer found my case and checked me in.

The JNB airport was eerily quiet when I arrived and departed thanks to COVID.

Ditto on Henry.

I have never had a problem and he saved my bacon on my last trip when Emerets did not check my bags through from DFW to Tete. That left me with a 2.5 hour layover in Johannesburg to pick up luggage, get rifle permit, check in at another airline, and board my flight to Tete. I was on the cell phone while taxiing out at DFW and when I arrived in Jberg Henry met me with a filled out permit application garnered from a previous application and walked me straight through. I made my flight to Tete but I would not have done so without that level of service.

I book with Gracy travel when ever I can as my airfare, meet and greet ,plus gun clearing can all be handled in one office. Have cleared guns with henrys a couple times and all is good also, but havent used there meet and greet.

I have used Go2Safari Concierge on two trips through Jo'burg airport and had great service.

I EXPECT to be a happy camper with Henry. I have read so many terrific things, and I am signed up with him for my upcoming trip. Best of wishes on your travel Everett. See you there in a week.

Counting the hours at this point Tundra Tiger. We head out Saturday morning.
I am wheels up for Anchorage today, to allow for time for a covid test. Onward from there Monday. I took forward to meeting you sir.

I typically stay at Africa Sky. They offer rifle permit and VIP meet & greet service.

+1 @riflepermits.com

They do a great job. We opted for the VIP greeting at the gate and they whisked us past the long line at customs. We went from gate, through customs, to waiting on our bags in about 5 minutes. Not sure if this is neccessary right now with reduced flights due to covid.

How long did it take from the time you were off the plane until you were through or rechecked for another flight?
We are coming in on Qatar on that flight that arrives at 4AM. The travel agent said we needed plenty of time to go through customs and SAPS as they are supposedly short staffed.

Our final destination was JNB, we were thru customs, on to SAP to retrieve guns and in the road by 5:15am. Flight landed at 4:00am. The airport was essentially empty!! Only person we saw in customs was the woman sitting in a glass booth, stamped our passports and we were on our way.
