Thanks!!

What do you mean with Mauser M98?

The term Mauser Modell 98 generally refers to the old military rifle or to the bolt action. Otherwise, one has to talk about very different type of rifles that were built with a Mauser 98 bolt action. I have not recently bought a rifle with such an action, but I have owned many in my life and I still have a few in my gun-safe.

Are you referring to the recent manufactured Diplomat and new Das Original? Cabelas just got several of the Das Original in. Like these?

If so @Surgeon1 could give you better hands on input.

Or maybe you meant the Mauser M98?

Mauser is still making the long loved M98 action, it’s what they barrel for Rigby’s Big Game Rifle, and spin up several levels of complete M98 rifles as well.

Folks should check out their website, it’s worth aat the very least a quick view.

Well, open ended really. Do you have one? Thoughts?

I bought a m98 in 7x57 about 4 years ago...can't remember exactly....always wanted a m98 but only in a proper mauser calibre...already had a 9.3x62 and also really had an itch for a 275/7x57....so the gunshop here I use are the mauser agent and when I was in saw one in the rack.....it sat in the rack for a long time due to aftermath of the Chinese virus....I looked at it every time I went in...then on here I read the price had jumped ...panic set in and I went to the shop and agreed terms...as owned by by an Indian who is very good like that....l totally loved it and more so after my first shots with it...I used it on a few animals here on takeri, from having to shoot snared animals to one's for meat and couple wounded by clients....it is a pleasure to shoot in this calibre....and is very effective..largest I have shot are 2 or 3 sable...worked fine...it tends to be the one that gets put in the cruiser when I am going out on the ranch....

And a rare photo of it with its scope in place...iron sights used most of the time...

To a lot of people it also means the current M98 being built by mauser....as shown in posts above and in mine....would have thought you would have known that.... :E Hmmm:

I am not familiar with hunting rifles.

Nice. Is yours the Expert Model or the Diplomat Model ?

Not sure it was in the shop so long the case and any papers had disappeared...it will be whichever is the "basic " one ... :E Big Grin:
Expert, then. Still very high end, of course. Makes my own 7x57mm Mauser Churchill Gun Makers Model Deluxe (built on a 1943 military surplus DWM Mauser Oberndorf action) look like a barbarian’s gun.

DWM is not Mauser, just like FN and all the other companies that produced or only used the Mauser 98 bolt action to build rifles. Anyone who has been dealing with this topic for more than 50 years will surely have something different in mind when he hear or read Mauser M98, than only just what Mauser produces nowadays.

one sporterized, two original, three original. all in standerd 8x57.

Nothing wrong with your well used "barbarian" gun....:A Thumbs Up::D Beers:

Demobilized army, 8x57, 1937 Oberndorf. Old stock on the left. A Scout type sight, in place of the iron sight - but I don't really like it, I'll probably return to the iron sight.

Have a Dos Originale In 300WM & 375H&H
Have shot 10 Rounds thru the 375
Shoots 0.5 MOA or better with my favorite load
4350 and 300gr A-frame. Really nice G7 wood on each. Hand picked wood by the project manager!

The M98s look clean. I’ve been considering both them and Rigbys. Not a ton of $$ savings going to an M98 vs a highland stalker so I figured if I can stomach the money spent a Rigby would be a better buy as I’m guessing it will hold its long term value better

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
