Mark Sullivan the Expose’

If ibwanted 100% sucess rate id go to a feed lot and shoot a cow.
Or go to South Africa. ;)

First the OP is talking about how its physically dangerous.
Then you change it to how much anxiety it causes.

As for the elk comparison yes its the same if your using your metrics vs the OP danger metrics.
Going on a hunt after drawing elk tags on public land is not a 100% sucess rate. And does incure some financial risk. For those who dont live in states with elk.

Well, I have hunted tuskless cow elephants in the middle of a herd. I have had them search for hunters after hearing a shot, huffing and puffing. I have also been charged by an elephant, and it was myself not the PH (he was blocked by the tracker) bringing it down at 15 yards during a night hunt.

There is a danger element for sure. One just has to prepare for it. After the elephant charge my PH proclaimed: "You took a step towards it, most would have taken a step back." My reply was "I was getting into shooting stance as I was bringing the gun up."

My two cents...How I see this is that mister Sullivan approaches this the same like a matador in the arena. Does this delay the death of the bull yes it does sometimes. Still it probably dies faster than waiting 30 minutes to let it expire.

think the same people who enjoy a bullfight enjoy his style of hunting buffalo. That said there also are big differences. When the first shot is in the vitals it is certain death.

Regardless of how one gets the bull to charge if one follows Mark's method of waiting until the bull is within a few meters, there is absolutely no room for error. A slight miss or a misfire then possibly it is game over.

Even though I am an adrenaline junkie and was exhilarated after my elephant charge, it is not something I would seek over and over. Stalking real close is good enough. There are usually no survivors after an elephant attack if it gets its way.

Not my cup of tea.

That sounds like a interesting trip.

Nah. Debating someone complaining about emotions is irrelevant to actual hunting.

But im going to rhodesia next summer for an ele
Who is your outfitter and where will you be hunting? BTW, they might take offense to calling Zimbabwe Rhodesia.

Start things off right with your PH on day 1. Tell them you’d like to be charged like a Mark Sullivan video and don’t want him backing you up until final second. See how much tolerance for stupidity they have.

Not sure what the purpose of the over the top sarcastic comment is for.

"Here's the keys. Go get your jollies. After dinner I'll send out the boys with a body bag to look for you." :D

I dont like mark sullivans antics so i dont see why i would?
So if it’s not sarcasm whats the point of that advice.
A wake up call for you. Going after dangerous game shouldn’t always be dangerous, but it should be taken serious.

Did I ever say I dont take things seriously? Im saying its a managed risk. Like many other things in life.

Please show where ive said its not a serious pursuit and had no risks?

Im not the one here making arguments about emotions and finances like mark did. That have absolutly 0 to do with the risks involved. Wich is what the bulk of my comments have been directed at.
It has danger involved but its not that crazy a rate of danger.

.

The last buff I shot was at about 20 meters in very thick bush with my .416 Rigby. He was so close that I asked my PH to also shoot to make sure we would anchor the bull on the spot. I shot, he shot and the bull dropped on the spot.

The bull before that I shot with a .470 with open sights off sticks at 100 m. A big herd on a river bank and we were at the edge of the reeds. Heart shot. The bull went 50 m and dropped.

Both were DG hunts but you can guess which was more adrenaline packed.

Every hunt is different and often circumstances dictate how things need to go.

Have done a number of DG hunts and thankfully never experienced a charge despite getting very close a number of times.

Going back to the OP, I have never met MS but I imagine that I would very much enjoy meeting him and spending time with him. A very successful person in his field whether you are pro or anti MS and he certainly fills the pages on web sites and internet forums with discussion !!

Not someone I care for, nor indeed do I think Heym made a wise choice to be fair. Tarnished their brand !

Yup, the market certainly dried up for Heym. No demand for Heym double rifles. /s

Yep well is what it is - Brand names are a strange construct !

I would not have gotten interested in double rifles if it wasn’t for Mark. I told him so and thanked him at DSC a week ago.
BTW, I have two Heym doubles.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
