Good day AH community,

It has been a few years since we offered this package but it is back due to popular demand. We have had quite a bit of interest from our clients to bring it back and we are happy to once again offer this to new and current clients. For those who do not know what a Macnab is - The Macnab is a traditional challenge dating back many centuries. It was considered to be the ultimate test of a sportsman's abilities as it tests him in all 3 facets a passionate sportsman might face - hunting, wingshooting as well as fly fishing. The following short piece explains it in a bit more detail:

"A Macnab is a classic sporting challenge rooted in Scottish field sports. To “achieve a Macnab,” a person must catch a salmon on the fly, stalk and shoot a red stag, and shoot a brace of grouse—all within a single day, typically dawn to dusk. Although modern interpretations sometimes vary, the essence remains a demanding test of skill, planning, and luck across three of Scotland’s most iconic pursuits. Today, some estates and conservation groups run Macnab challenges as charity events or to promote ethical field sports, but the core idea remains the same: a one-day triathlon of traditional Highland sport.

The story of the Macnab originates from John Buchan’s 1925 novel John Macnab. In the book, three bored but accomplished gentlemen—seeking adventure and a test of their abilities—send letters to three Highland estates announcing that they will attempt to poach game from each property without being caught. They sign their challenge “John Macnab.” What follows is a mix of suspense, humour, and Highland sporting lore, and the daring escapades of Buchan’s characters inspired generations of sportsmen to emulate the feat in real life. Over time, the fictional caper evolved into the formalized challenge now known simply as “the Macnab."

The challenge was of course to have success in all 3 facets between sunrise and sunset. Here in South Africa, honoring that age old tradition, our own version of a Macnab has been created. This incorporates the 3 species in South Africa that are some of the most difficult to harvest in terrain you will need to be fit to conquer! One is required to hunt either a Mountain Reedbuck, Common Reedbuck or a Vaal Rhebok, shoot a brace of waterfowl and then finally catch a wild trout on fly fishing equipment all between sunrise and sunset.

Upon successfully completing the challenge a certificate is issued to the successful hunter.

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
