Hello gentlemen. I’m looking to purchase a new or used (in good shape) CZ 550 9.3x62. I’m headed back to Africa this August and would like to try this historic cartridge on buffalo, eland & sable. I’m partial to CZ but will consider other 9.3x62 rifles that have iron sights. Let me know what you have or if you know someone who may have one. Thanks in advance.

I have a Zastava in 9.3x62. It won't win any beauty contests, but it shoots straight. I put a NECG aperture on it, then I started creeping up on 50 and my eyes weren't so good anymore, so I scoped it.

Never owned a CZ, but apparently, they leave the shop about as coarse as Zastavas, which need the TLC a good smith can provide (polishing rails, feed ramps, extractor).

Thanks for the offer. Do you have any pics? How old is the rifle? How much use? Are the original owner?

Ain’t selling mine! They’re good guns but yes they sometimes do need a little TLC.

I have a CZ full stock, Lux stock. 9.3x62. Only shot it open sighted but been awhile. I'd probably sell it for the right offer.

Just tried to send you a PM. I’m new to this platform so hopefully I did that correctly.

You might find a 550 American in that cal, but the iron sight model called the Lux is pretty scarce. I had one a few years ago and like many of my guns it went down the road for something else. Wish I still had it. Good luck in your search.

My 9,3x62 is a Husqvarna 640, (not for sale) but they are solid rifles. My rifle is built on an FN commercial 98 Mauser action, shoots great and is easy to carry. The Husky might be another option for you to consider. If all else fails, the Wanenmacher’s Tulsa Arms Show is coming up 4-5 April.

Good luck in your quest!

@Glenn Slaven had a Sauer 100 or 101 in 9.3x62 he was trying to sell. Don't recall if he ever sold it, though. He's here in Houston like I am. Might ping him also.

One thing I will say about a 9.3x62 - it's tempting to try and goose the 286 and 300 gr bullets to 2400+. You can do it with either Ram Shot Big Game or Alliant 2000-MR (I've used both). But...if you shoot 1 MOA at 2350, be satisfied with that. MV of 2450 doesn't get you a whole lot you don't already get at 2350.

Every guide I've talked to is happy to take me hunting cape buffalo with my 9.3, but they all request I shoot 300 gr A-Frame. TSX 286 gr might work, but all the published data for them is below 2300 fps.

I have a CZ 550 LUX. Not for sale. But I run 286 partitions @ 2550fps with 59grs of Varget. No pressure and 3/4 " groups. Don't recommend this for anyone else's gun but works fine in mine.

What's your COAL with that load? I tried using Varget with Hornady 286 gr, and at about 55-56 gr, I couldn't seat the bullet deeply enough to get the 3.125" COAL Hornady specifies in Hornady X edition.

@sgt_zim, I've heard the owner at Reed's Ammunition and Research will help folks with load development even if not specifically purchasing his ammunition. You may want to drop them a line regarding the Swift A-Frame. My experience is he's usually replying in the hours between midnight and dawn via email so phone conversation if preferred might best best arranged and scheduled after email contact.

For general sales they offer the PPU 9.3mm 286 grain SPRN @ 2350 fps and Hornady SP-RP at 2400 fps.

https://shop.reedsammo.com/93x62_c103.htm

Norma offers factory 9.3X62mm ammo loaded with the 286 grain Swift A-Frame projectile with a published muzzle velocity of 2362 fps (720 m/s), hard to extrapolate 14 more grains weight and handloading not achieving 2300 fps or greater muzzle velocity on the face of it, but I'm no reloader.

FWIW Norma offers a 9.3mm 325 grain Oryx (bonded protected point) projectile as a component bullet as one potential alternative to the Swift A-Frame. Norma publishes the minimum expansion velocity of all the Oryx projectiles as 1500 fps, lower than many bonded bullet competitors like the Swift A-Frame. The 325 grain Oryx is offered in Norma factory amm with a published muzzle velocity of 2198 fps (670 m/s). I have no idea what hand loading this projectile can reach.

Norma also has 9.3mm 286 grain and 232 grain Oryx projectiles offered as component bullets, and offers those in factory 9.3X62mm ammo with published muzzle velocities of 2362 fps (720 m/s) and 2625 fps (800 m/s), respectively.

Norma also offers 9.3X62mm factory ammo with a solid 275 grain projectile with a published muzzle velocity of 2444 fps (745 m/s) in their African PH line.

I have Norma's reloading manual. I've thought long and hard about that 325, and Woodleigh's 320. I'm intrigued by both, just haven't gotten around to trying them yet.

My gripe about the 232 is the low BC. I don't see it doing anything at 100 yds I can't get out of a 286, and is actually worse at 300 yards than most of the 286 bullets I've researched, especially NP.

Greetings all! I've been a hunter for 50 years, but only now planning a trip to Africa. I was fortunate and successfully bid on a couple hunts for plains game in SA later this year and next. Also a rare Native Texas (5th generation) and USMC Vet. Hunt safe y'all!
