Lighter bullets in .375...?

I am trying to convince my self to use my one 375 with lighter bullets in open areas max out to 300 yards for smaller to medium size pg but am having a hard time doing so as I have always used min 300gr....but it is a lot off bullet for springbuck and blesbuvk......

I have run the numbers through Applied Ballistics that has generated the following drop charts based on the bullet hitting 1.5 inches high at 100m as I do with most of my rifles. The first chart is the 235g TSX @ 2950fps, the second the 250g TTSX @ 2850fps and the third the 300g TSX @ 2550fps.
To me the 250g TTSX looks good with less drop and more velocity and energy at 300m

If I wanted lighter bullets eg. 210-250 gr I'd use my 340 Roy. 250 gr Partitions @ 3050 fps. For the 375 H&H I use 299 gr Shock Hammers @ 2670 fps. FWIW. JM

IvW, it sort of puts it in a problem converting from using one weight for years, then changing. If/when I take my 375 H&H I have followed Doctari’s suggestion for two scopes. A 1-6x sighted at 100 yards with 300 grain for DG and a 2-12x sighted for a 6” POI for 250 grain and used on PG. Easily switched with QR rings. That also gives me a scope backup just in case. Traveling thousands of miles from home at great expense, a contingency can be useful.
Luckily you may not have that potential. Heck you probably have two rifles all the time! Lucky guy! Or maybe your son is your backup? Very lucky in that case!

No problem, for 300 m plus it looks a no brainier as the 250g has more velocity and energy than the 300g bullet too

Here is a matching chart for the 260 Accubond @ 2800fps. The drop at 400 looks similar but it has better retained energy than the 250 TTSX

I really like my 250 grain TTSX in my 375 H&H. It is my most accurate round, photos are 100 and 300 yard repeatable groups. At +2.5 at 100 it is -9 at 300 with a +0 at 100 it is -19 at 300.

I went to the range yesterday with my 375 Ruger and newly installed Leica 1-6.3 x 24 Magnus illuminated reticle scope. This was the second range session for this new combo. I also brought along a 7x57 to alternate with so the barrels wouldn't get too warm.

I had a box of factory Hornady 250 gr GMX. The label on the box says 2800 fps and that was pretty much spot on out of my 23 inch barrel, as measured by my MagnetoSpeed. My 5 shot group that I measured was: 2800, 2799, 2805, 2789 and 2813.

270 gr LRX at 2750-2800 should be a good, along with the 260 gr accubond

The better BC of the 250 would be preferable to the slightly higher muzzle velocity of the 235, and should maintain 2000fps past 300 yards for decent expansion. I’m going to try the 250gr Peregrine VLR4 in the Karoo this year on plainsgame ( Gemsbok, Black Wildebeest etc).
