Life’s too short to hunt an ugly rifle

I have an unnatural aversion to black plastic guns. To me they are cold and impersonal tools. Give me blued steel and figured wood for my guns. Been called a fudd and a curmudgeon and I embrace both. Been married to the love of my life for 46 years. She lets me hunt and fish mostly whenever I want. I won’t apologize or try to convert others to my way of thinking and ask the same of others. Pretty much the same goes for calibers. New and improved does not mean better.

I have a few rifles with synthetic stocks, but they were chose for a particular reason.

Rainy weather
Near saltwater
Bad conditions (like them riding in the rack of a UTV for 20 miles)

Otherwise, life is too short to hunt with an ugly rifle!

@50Gunner
The only reason my wife went out with me is because I shot her seeing eye dog and stole her white stick.
I fell out of the ugly tree and must have hit every branch on the way down. Fortunately when I was young meat was cheap so mum would tie a sausage around my neck so the dog would play with me.

You think you have it bad, I have to sneak up on a mirror to comb my hair!!

LOL.....knew a fellow, we were in the same aviation unit. He would agree whole heartily with you. Makes a good campfire story.

My wife ain't fat but she sure loves me
My mate Terry is trying to find a woman that loves him as much as he loves himself, an impossibility.

@Andrew62
The other night I went into the bathroom for a shave. Came running out of there yelling to the wife to call the police.
When I went in there there was some ugly old bastard that was rather rough looking in there. My wife said don't be silly it's the mirror.
I told her bullshit I'm young and handsome with rugged good looks. The bastard I saw was an ugly old prick so I knew it couldn't have been me.
She didn't believe me ,when she went in I was near her and all I saw was a beautiful woman.
The other mongrel must have jumped out the window when I mentioned police.

When you're a lefty, "any port in a storm" looks good.

Nothing I own is expensive but I AGREE
Not all beautiful guns are expensive. Not all expensive guns are beautiful. With the exception of these Boyds and McMillan replacement stocks on my hard-use .300 H&H and .375 H&H Winchester 70s (which I don’t find ugly at all), the rest are all walnut. I consider them all beautiful, and the best part is I probably don’t have more than two grand in any one of them!

How long is the barrel on the one with laminated stock?

26 inch barrel .300 H&H Magnum Model 70 from 1949. She was a fixer upper. I had a gray/black cerakote done on the barreled action, as the original bluing was too far gone, new sights and scope, and of course the Boyds stock which I think is very good looking. Pretty much an all-weather modern rifle now, but with the heart and soul of a classic. And her sister is a 25 inch barrel .375 H&H Magnum Model 70 from 1954, wearing a West German Zeiss scope, and glass bedded in the McMillan stock, very sturdy, and good looking too I think.

@Wildwillalaska - Beautiful rifles and well done on the elephant. The only pretty wood firearm I own is a shotgun that I was on the fence about, but my wife decided it was worth it. I know everyone here will be completely surprised that it's a Blaser. ;)

Can you tell me a little more about the cartridge belt in the pictures please?

Gotta disagree with that one. The neurotic ones are easy to deal with. My ex-wife is not neurotic.

And all women have some degree of neurosis or psychosis. Every one of them. If they didn't have kitty kats, there'd be a bounty on all of them.

The hot-crazy matrix is real.

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
