When you're dealing with a whole Cape buffalo hide, it seems to me you would have a lot to work with re evaluating what parts to use and which are too thick, to thin, etc. Shouldn't be terribly time consuming sorting it out, especially for someone with day to day experience. I know something about this having worked up projects with whole elk hides. The same section that might be used for moccasin soles would not be used for gloves, etc. Anyway, thanks for your time. I'm not interested in paying $400 to have a custom gun case made from my leather when the competition will do it for less than half that price. And most of us with any history on here know who the competition is. Good luck with your business venture. And I mean that.
As an aside, personally I would not want lambskin lining inside my soft gun case. Lambskin is not very durable and it shows dirt badly. Remember, we will be putting oiled guns with gunpowder residue and "brush hook" front sights inside the cases. I'm not sure how or if soiled or damaged gun case insides could be cleaned or repaired. Something to consider.
