Krieghoff Big 5???

Earlier this year I worked a deal with Champlin Arms for a Kgun in 500/416 with a set of 20ga barrels for under 12K. They were very easy do deal with and a very professional company. You should check them out and I spoke with Alamo at DSC last year and the prices they quoted for new were in the 15-18K range for a new rifle.

On a side note have worked up a load for 400gr Swift Aframes and CEB solids that a 4 shot cluster is under 2 in center to center at 50 Meters. I am very happy with this rifle.

Among his current inventory, this is the one that excites me. I just don't get the fascination of a .500 as a client's rile. This, on the other hand, would be a truly all purpose double for a buffalo and PG safari. And I can guarantee the extractors will function as advertised on those rimless cases. It will also easily dispatch the one or two elephant it may be asked to kill. Wish I could justify it, but already have a Blaser S2 in that caliber (it has also functioned flawlessly on buffalo and a bunch of PG)

Those are respectable options indeed for the cost, in comparison to purchasing new for twice as much .. that's hard to justify!. I can say, the one available is rare in appearance for a Classic w/o any upgrades. However, still considering & Thank You for bringing these to our attn!!!

Krieghoff was never even considered until I had an opportunity to shoulder & look over a used one that was nicely appointed for a 24 yr old K. I was impressed! I can see why people **** can the double idea & focus their investment in a nice bolt.

Still glad to hear that owners had good experience & comments that they work well, which any double should.

In all honesty, my biggest concern is current affairs, a crippled economy, HR-127, etc...

Ok, if anyone can add their opinions, advice, etc,? Anything would be Greatly Appreciated!!!

Brand New, from PA to dealer. Does this sound about right? And is it worth it?
$17,100. Plus MI's sales Tax...
No Upgrades, etc,. Pushing $20K for a K!

The dealer provided me with Pics of the Stock?, .. Requested & awaiting full length Photos, for the 2nd time?!?
PH Model brand new Heym 88B can be ordered for about ~18K or so. Not to mention it would be made to your stock measurements.

It has been listed at guns international web site forever.

I like my Krieghoff Double in .470. Krieghoffs are different than most doubles because of the cocking device. Once you practice pushing the cocking lever forward enough it becomes natural. It is also a little blocky, not as svelte and balanced as an English double. On the other hand they are solid, strong, and accurate.

Prices in doubles in general have fallen. I just saw an Army & Navy in .470 NE, a Webley long-bar action, doll’s head 3rd bite, 28” barrels, 14.5” LOP, and extractors for less than $15,000.

Wife and I made a road trip from TN to OK to hit a few antique shops and coincidentally enough my planned turn around point was Enid, OK....
Spent about an hour and a half visiting with George and handling the various doubles he has in the safe room. Can tell you the Krieghoffs handle great and that safety is so simple and effective.
That being said my personal preference was the Heym 88b Safari. Really like the feel and balance.
I would be happy with either....now to find one with a 14.75-15 LOP.
Staying the night here in Enid and heading towards Branson in the morning.

Pick what you like.

I am a huge fan of the Krieghoff. I'll own one eventually, I used to own a Blaser S-2 about 15 years ago and I think the K gun is everything the Blaser should have been.

Heyms are the only guns that the market is not soft on. A used K gun should be around $10,000.

That's glad to hear, and Thank You. It appears a to be a different breed indeed, however, "Solid, Strong & Accurate". Pivotal!

Excellent news, glad to hear your happy with the K! & appreciate the validation on todays pricing.

It's been a pleasure to hear everyone's thought's and a great deal of help, I can't thank you enough for expedient responses regarding. .. I guess I never knew Krieghoff had such a respectable reputation with owners, hunters, etc. & it's subjective to the individual.

What I'd like?, an 88B Jumbo/577, but that's not in my blood. Moved forward, confident in the decision. Beautiful Classic for a stock K, simply just hope it works as it's intended

So long as they don't ban or make a compromise on this proposed bill! .50 Caliber & larger is in the literature, but that maybe another thread?

Thank You AH!
Respectfully, Daniel.

I don't know how much utility there would be on a 577 NE, but if you'd like one then why not.

P.s. Does anyone know the apx weight of this rifle? .. I've covered everything short of.

Their catalog shows them coming in around 9.5-10.5# depending on wood density and options.

There are a few members here with Krieghoff Big 5 doubles.
They should be able to provide you with an approximate weight.

My 500/416 with a red dot comes in at 10.58 pounds unloaded.

Quick note. Kreighoff gunsmiths in PA are great. I wanted my k gun to shoot swift a frames. I purchased a box of custom loads from hendershot and the gunsmiths rerugulated the gun for me.

Kreighoff charges $290 for this service if you supply the ammo. They will not do it with customer reloads. They would except hendershot custom.

There are “nicer and better” guns out there but not for the money you pay for a good used or new kreighoff. The quotes are because it is a pretty subjective description. As we all say the animals do not care if the bullet is going 2,300 FPS or 2,100 FPS and the certainly do not know it came from a Holland Holland or a k-gun.

Good luck with your choice.

A 470/9.3x74R combo would be a hell of a set up.

I am interested in getting a 500/416 NE K gun at some point. It will have a Swaro 1.7-10 on top.

My investments need a little work before we go down that path.

I really like the Heym, but I mostly hunt with a Blaser R8 and having a rifle you can decock for safety makes a hell of a lot more sense to me.
