Bought this from Krieger’s In-Stock inventory January of this year and had them turn it to their #5 contour with the intention of building a 400 Whelen. Decided to go a different direction and going to let it go to fund other projects.

Krieger 411/403 Chromoly barrel blank
16 twist
#5 contour
27” overall blank length
1.25” shank
0.700” at 26” length

$450 and I cover shipping to your door in lower 48

Would consider trades for Krieger/Bartlein/Brux barrels in 458/14tw or maybe 358 in #5 or 6 contour

Could this be used for a 400 H&H or another 40 caliber on 375 H&H action? I am currently building a rifle on a 375 H&H action and have not bought a barrel yet. I don't know about whether this is the correct twist rate.

The Shilen .411 barrel I bought for my 400H&H project was a 1-14
Not much of a math wiz to figure out proper twist rate but would that barrel be best suited to a 405 Win slower lighter bullets than a 400H&H

Berger has a great stability calculator on their website. In a 16 twist 400gr bullets are stable below 2000fps at sea level at 32 degrees.

Looks like the are stable all the way to 900 fps.

Would that work for 405 win for a encore barrel ? I probably wouldn't shoot over 350 gr and mostly 210 to 300 grain .I know that's more accurate than the barrels you get for most 405 win .

I don’t see why it wouldn’t but would confirm with a smith

I have an unused Shilen 24” chromemoly barrel, threaded for a Model 70 (1”x16tpi), that is chambered for 358 Win, if you’re looking for something like that. .715 at the muzzle, so it should be their #5 contour. Like yours, it was purchased for a project that changed directions

Appreciate the offer but looking for an unchambered blank…would most likely do a 35 Whelen

You’ve got an interesting screen name. Will the Thrill provided lots of great times for me as a lifelong Giants fan. Even though I never met him, a number of buddies either duck hunted or shared a dugout with him. He’s a great guy according to those guys. Cool screen name and if that’s your real name, it’s a great one.
in-between all the bush fire, hunting and work on the hunting area its hard to find time for fishing as well

I ran across a message from you a couple of years ago while I was going through old emails. I have arranged a second bison hunt in Nebraska in September 2024, about 6-years after the first, when my supply of bison meat was exhausted. My email is [redacted].

If those Schells rings fare still available, I could use them. I'm willing to pay for the shipping.
